Question How do you load the weight?

My friend once told me that if you loaded the plates on the BB with the weight level/description facing in, that it was good luck and displayed humility. I did this for the longest time until my Dad pointed out that none of that really mattered because, regardless of which side is facing out, most people know the amount of weight you have loaded just by familiarity. They can tell.

I'd like to know what you guys do. Are you intentional about loading the weight facing in or do you not care? What do you think?

That's an interesting perspective your friend has.

I workout at home so it is irrelevant for me.

But even if I did workout in a gym, I don't think I would give the plate loading a second thought. There will always be people weaker than me and stronger than me, and I don't care what either thinks about how much I lift as long as it is working for me.

Nice avatar by the way, I used to love Sting when I followed wrestling in the late 90's.

jtparker good day to you.
I use to workout in a gym twice a day most times and when I loaded the weight I was only thinking of one thing. That particular lift. I saw nobody or nothing while I lifted. It is not good luck to me, it is hard work. Good luck my friend. God Bless!

That's a great way of looking at it Commander. After a 4 year hiatus from the gym, I find that I'm not as strong as I used to be. At first it was kind of embarrassing to have to use the smaller weights just to be able to get the reps in with good form and focus, but it's getting better. Like you said, you just have to do what works for you and not care what others think.

And thanks! Sting has always been one of my wrestling heroes especially in the 90's on WCW.

I always found that form mattered MUCH more than the amount of weight I could sling around. Proper form with lower weight in all lifts will yield better results. If you're having to throw the weight with momentum instead of strength, or you're bouncing it off your chest for the next rep, then you'd be better off lowering the weight and going slower. You might impress an inexperienced lifter in the gym with all those plates, but to those who are serious about it and have taken the time to do their due-diligence in learning the proper methodology of lifting, you'll be the laughing-stock of the bench!

10forty2 You are absolutely right. True wisdom my friend. I have indeed seen better results by focusing on form than by focusing on weight. Sure, I'm not lifting as much weight, but I am putting on the muscle and that's my goal.
