BB Row

My friend wanted to play basketball and then workout. He showed up late so I played 2 games without him. Then he said he had a migraine and I was tired from basketball. So he went home and I did the workout above. He says he'll come do legs & abs with me tomorrow. We'll see. I guess my hopes of having a partner for the first time in like 5 years are not looking too good.

9/28/10 - Legs

Played a game of 1 on 1 basketball

Squat
185/5 for 4 sets
185/4

Leg Extension
105/10
120/10
135/10
150/10

Played another game of 1 on 1 basketball

Friend showed up this time and wanted to play basketball first. Then he said he hates doing legs so I did squats while he did chest. Then we did some leg extensions together and then played some more basketball. If I have nothing to do tonight, I might go back and do some deadlifts and abs.

Yea, I finally get a partner but he's taking me in the opposite direction. I have another friend who is deciding between joining my gym or a 24 hour gym. So maybe he'll turn out better if he joins mine. If not, I'll just have to keep it going on my own.

9/30/10 - Biceps & Triceps

EZ Bar Curl superset with DB Curl
80/5 for 4 sets, 80/3
20/5 for 4 sets, 20/3

EZ Bar Preacher Curl superset with DB Hammer Curl
70/5 for 2 sets
10/5 for 2 sets

Dips superset with Cable Pressdowns
5 for 4 sets
120/5 for 4 sets

DB Overhead Extension
50/5
65/5
65/5

So the past couple times, when I do straight bar curls my right forearm starts hurting. So I tried the EZ bar this time, but still got the same result. I'm assuming since its only one arm and its my dominant arm, that I am trying to compensate with that arm and doing something wrong. Its okay though because its curls, which I don't plan on doing much anymore. This is the first time I've ever done an arm day in a routine and didn't like it that much.

I have a race, Barbarian Challenge, on October 23rd and I am trying to participate in the FSU Powerlifiting Competition with Mike on November 6th. So I think I am going to switch back to a strength specific routine working on a main lift + accessory exercises each day. And I will implement some cardio just so I can be in shape for my race. It's only 3.5 miles and has various obstacles so it shouldn't be too hard to have fun and compete in.

Had one of my best nutritional days in awhile yesterday. Oatmeal for breakfast. Shrimp and brown rice for lunch. Chicken breast and brown rice for dinner. And a couple protein shakes inbetween. Still, my bodyweight somehow dropped from 174 to 171 and I didn't even do any type of exercise yesterday.

Today I tried out this 300 workout my friend told me about just for fun. Too bad it wasn't much fun. Did 25 pullups, 50 deadlifts with 135 lbs, 50 pushups, 30 box jumps and then stopped. I felt like I was going to puke. Went home and showered and then puked in the shower. I don't think its all the workout though. My stomach has been feeling weird some during workouts ever since I started taking SciVation Xtend. It's just never gotten this bad. I think I'm going to try a couple workouts without it to see if I notice any difference. I plan on going back to a non-linear strength routine because I might be doing a powerlifting competition next month.

Just my input, the 300 workout is a nice change of pace, but is more geared to someone who is cutting. You aren't gonna put on mass with that.

Nice progression, and I have found like you it is hard to eat sometimes. I literally force feed myself when necessary. You have to force the body to grow sometimes. Keep at it.

Yea, I only did the 300 workout for 1 reason. My friends and I are doing a race in a few weeks and they do the 300 workout every Sunday and HIIT and other lifting on other days. So they told me to try it out to see how well I would do compared to them. It doesn't have a direct correlation to how well I would do running 3.5 miles with obstacles, but it does show my aerobic conditioning is a bit off. So I am now starting a strength routine with some running if I have time and not lazy. This should prepare me for the race and possibly a powerlifiting competition I may do next month.

10/5/10 - Deadlift

Deadlift
315x6
335x4
355x1

Pullups
5x5 w/ BW

Shrug Machine
5x5 w/ 320

Started my strength routine tonight after I helped my dad with some work. Felt tired going in and I didn't take any Xtend. Stomach felt fine, so it may be the likely culprit. Deadlift felt a little difficult but I did deadlift 2 days ago with 135 for 5 sets of 10. And my hamstrings and glutes were a tiny bit sore. I'll be fine. I know my strength won't go up drastically, if at all, in just 1 month. I just want to tighten up my deadlift form and make sure I break 400 at the competition. I did 405 in Mike's garage but I had a hitch in it, so it wouldn't count at a meet.

10/7/10 - Hypertrophy Bench

Bench Press
145x10
125x10
125x10

Hammer Strength Incline
90x10 for 5 sets

Dips
BWx10 for 3 sets

Tired from a hard day of work. Got my workout in and came home. Can't wait for bed.

10/11/10 - Strength Squat

Squat
195/6
205/4
225/2

Leg Press
3x5 w/ 360 lbs

Leg Curl
3x5 w/ 115 lbs

Took a few days off which worked well because i felt good squatting. Was supposed to do 195, 205, 220 but i have done 225 for 2 before so I knew I could get it. Still slow out of the hole, otherwise i prolly would have attempted a 3rd rep and gotten it. Prolly taking today off because i have to work and then going to the Heat game at night. Tomorrow will prolly be overhead press hypertrophy, got to work on my rear delts some.

10/13/10 - Hypertrophy Shoulders

DB Military Press
4x12 w/ 27 lbs

DB Side Laterals
4x10 w/ 12 lbs

DB Rear Delts
3x15 w/ 12 lbs

Rotator Cuff Work

Didn't have the energy to go to the gym after work today. So I used my home DBs to workout at home. Only rested 1 min between set and just pumped away. Did some rotator cuff work at the end because I didn't want to do too much volume with shoulders. They get enough of a beating from squatting and benching. Gonna give my CNS a break before doing heavy bench. Might do a DE day inbetween if I get time. Only 8 more days till I head up to Tallahassee for my race on the 23rd and powerlifting competition nov 6th. Hopefully I can find a gym up there to work out at for cheap during the 2 weeks I'm up there.
