Hey guys,
I'm doing some research on why people are not exercising. Or doing way too little exercise. I'm working on few articles for a Swedish site and want to cover as many "obstacles" and "excuses" as possible. The typical profile of a person who is going to read it is a man/woman between 27-45 years old, probably overweight, have kids. Here are a couple of examples : - Too much information -> procrastination, don't know where to start - No clear plan of action - No Time - Low Motivation I would love any suggestions from you guys so that I can cover a broader topic and hit more "buttons", and thus help more people to overcome their internal objections. Thanks!

Well my own current reasons have most largely been I have very bad insomnia which makes it impossible some days, and I was out of action for a while due to a slipped disk. I do sometimes have periods that are far too busy to even spare an hour or two for gym time, which I'm sure is common.

well for starters i think most people have a problem with discipline. busy life scheduals. it takes 3x as long to burn fat than it is to put fat on. desired results take time, thus people give up quickly. being lazy is just easier for some... medical condition... im sure there will be more, i dont want to think of all of them

self confidence. how many times have you seen it someone who is fat losses a bit of weight feeling good goes out and if gets in an arguement its always the weight comments that come back,
Lack of support... this one i know my self people always say. 'why bother its a waste of money', 'waste of time', 'you look practically the same'...Gee thanks Selfishness (On part of others) still a support issue, but the whole thing when loved ones say 'your fine how you are' i know its meant to help but if someone hears it all time they have no motivation to change, your partner can be most powerful weapon for or against training. Self Concious Many (particullarly very overweight) people do not like having to train in front of other people through fear of judgement Diet Not in terms of discipline more in the way of not wanting to give up a particular habbit, (i will admit i am partial to energy drinks) aswell as the time it takes alot of healthy meals take longer than opening a packet of crisps hence most are not interested. Addiction to Food A friend is literally addicted to KFC he can eat a family Bucket to himself.. ask him why? 'because i love the taste' even when not hungry he will eat if he has money and see's kfc. i think this is a big thing, taste, many healthy foods dont compete flavour wise and again not as fast to buy Last edited by klosey; 02-04-2010 at 09:57 AM. |

World of Warcraft or other computer gaming. Television as well is terrible.

I know a man who almost ruined his marriage and family life because of World of Warcraft. People need to discipline to draw the line between entertainment and addiction.

Myself, my excuses are:
1) No time: full-time job and full time school keep my schedule crazy 2) In the time I have (early morning): I cannot find a gym that is reliably open at that time, and the cost for the 24 hour places is insane. Plus, the 24 hour joints around me only have a few cardio machines (bikes/treadmills/etc), a 'circuit' with cable machines, and a few dumbbells

I think that a lot of people try to take an easy way out because they hear that "switching from coke to diet coke can help you lose X amount of pounds in just one month!" Then the get the mentality of, "Hey, since I'm drinking diet coke that makes up for the Big Mac and large fry I'm about to shovel down!"
