What does it take as far as education and certification to be a personal trainer?

doesn't take anything...to be reputable it's best to have a recognizable certification such as the following

"Good" Starting Certifications-
ACE
AFAA

The Best-
ACSM CPT
NSCA-CPT
CSCS

there are hundreds but most are garbage...the CSCS requires a degree.

I don't know, but I've heard of people taking a 2 week course and being certified. I guess it depends on how far up you want to work. I imagine your local YMCA will hire the 2 week groups. But someone who is a trainer to the hollywood stars would need degrees and all that jazz.

Just speculating here.

I'm going through ACE right now to get certified, but that's only so I can start working, my ultimate goal is a degree.

Are you taking the course at a community college or something? Or are you doing everything at home on your own?

I'm studying for my CSCS right now. I have a B.S. in Economics; no scientific degree though.

I got mine from ISSA and I think it is the best. It is not a easy course either, and is the only Fitness Training school with an edu on it's name which is recognized by the govt. as an acreditted school.

The ISSA is the 1st and Only Fitness Organization to be Nationally Accredited by the DETC who is federally recognized by the USDoE and CHEA. I also know the curriculum to be very strenous. I posted this because I am certified by this Program and I truly believe it to be better than ok. JMHO. thanks.
