So today I added 20 lbs to my squats, did 1 set fine, but decided to go down lower and had to drop it, good thing i had spotter pins set up perfectly, I felt absolutely no strain at all in dropping it since there was honestly 1 cm between the barbell and spotter pins! So I decided to drop off the 20 lbs, and do 145lbs like last workout, Im pretty sure its cause my legs were a bit weak from this first week, but I'll add 10 lbs over the next 2 workouts just incase.
Heres how today went after that incident. Squats 3x5x145 Bench 3x5x95 Deadlift 1x5x165 Increase in all except squats, in which I will increase by 10 lbs from now on, 20 lbs is just too much of a jump I think. I was doing them pretty well but whats pretty well if I can't do it going down all the way right? In between squats and bench, I had a lot of time so I was just jumping around the gym, a lot of people cut class today so it was realy just me and 10 other guys, 5 of them just sitting around 3 working dumbells and me and my friend just measuring our jump (there was tape on the floor!) I wish I had a measure but I think my standing jump was about 2.3m which I'm not sure is that great, but I enjoyed it. |

I feel I have gotten to the point where I am no longer worried about making gains, I know gains will come if I give it my all in the gym, that's what I've been doing. Progressing these weights and feeling every muscle fiber being used, thats what makes me happy now from working out. It's more of a hobby now then a way of getting big. I take satisfaction in doing my lifts correctly and following this program as well as I can. Thanks for your compliment and I too am looking forward to progressing. |

My knee is hurting from squats, I went from never doing them to doing them 3 times a week, my form is superb but my body has not adapted. I have opted to take this week off doing just some fullbody stuff, easy going. Next week I'll do them twice a week and I need to find a substitute excersie.

are you stretching your legs thoroughly after working out? I have squated 12 of the last 21 days and I have no knee pain thanks to stretching. I used to have knee pain from squating 1 or 2 times per week because I didn't stretch. IMO, stretching made a world of difference.

Cool to see someone doing this program when just starting out. I'm sure you will make tremendous progess. I just picked up the Starting Strength book and it has been very helpful for me even though I've been training for almost 10 years now.
