If I was betting on this one I would have taken Faber, an I would still take him if they do a Brown v. Faber III, which I think they should after they each log a win or two.
Faber was dominating til he broke his hand, and still won the round after he did. He nearly finished Brown in the first. When Faber had all his weapons, Brown looked confused and unable to launch an effective counter attack to Faber's quickness and diversity in striking. The much larger, stronger Brown had double underhooks on Faber and simply wasn't able to get him down. Faber stayed competitive despite not being able to throw the right hand for 4 more rounds. If they get a 3rd matchup, I might put money on a fight for the first time and call Faber, especially if he gets some underdog odds. |

Are you kidding?! On the punch that broke Faber's hand, Brown buckled at the knees. He was the only one getting clean strikes in. I may have to watch it again, but it was pretty clear domination to me.

Its MMA. The Broken hand is no excuse. Anything can happen. Brown was deserving of the win. I wouldn't bet against FABER either however. Im sure there will be a rematch.

That's a bull**** thing to say. I can only assume you don't train as trying to hit with a broken hand is **** near impossible, especially considering the severity of faber's (2 separate fractures). The fact that he continued at all with no striking or grip with the right hand and kept the fight competitive for 4 rounds is amazing. That fight made me a Faber fan.

I dont think I said anything wrong. No I dont train, but I've broken my hand in a barfight before. It hurts like hell, but what can you do about it? You either keep going or lose right? We all know FABER wouldn't quit. He's too good to. Believe me, I'm an avid MMA fan, and I love Faber. I've been watching MMA for years and I've seen a ton of mishaps. Fact of the matter is he broke has hand. It happens. Like broken ribs, etc... What can you do about it during a match? You can quit or be a warrior and push past the pain. I was actually cheering for FABER. Its part of the game.... He lost. He'll come back from it. These things happen. Thats MMA.
What else do you want me to say? I wish he fixed his hand so he could continue fairly?? It what it is. HE LOST. Brown capitalized and won fairly. And thats that. Last edited by Trench; 06-09-2009 at 11:43 AM. |

Perhaps I read too much into your phrasing when you said "A broken hand is no excuse." I, personally, think it was a totally valid excuse for his inability to put a lot of pressure on Brown, as the tone of the fight clearly changed after that. Usually when guys break their hands in a fight they are still able to grip, but that wasn't the case here.
Yes, this is MMA, yes they fight hurt, but its the location of the injury that's important. A broken hand for a MMA fighter is the equivalent of a major league pitcher tearing their rotator cuff, except the fighter gets no middle reliever to finish the job. Think about hockey, those guys will eat teeth and play with broken bones, but an ankle sprain is enough to keep them benched due to the location of the injury. |
