Default Our HMB study just got published ahead of print

http://www.nutritionandmetabolism.co...3-7075-6-6.pdf

Real interesting study. Essentially this is the first study which did not load (give HMB for like 2 weeks) prior to a study. It is also the first to examine the timing effects of HMB on muscle damage. What we essentially did was administer 3 grams of HMB either prior to a muscle damaging exercise or after (or a placebo!). WHile the magnitude of HMBS effects were not as great as when loading it, notice that when giving it prior to exercise that it was actually able to prevent LDH ( a serum index of damage) from significantly increasing(figure 3), it also had trends to lower soreness in the quads and hams. Its also interesting to note that there are virtually no differences between the placebo and taking HMB after exercise !

that exercise protocol looks brutal...so i definitely think it was damaging enough...interesting HMB showed no effect...perhaps loading is necessary.
