Cool pullups using lat down, help!

i looked this video on youtube shows how to master pullups as teh band reduces the weight u need to pull by 30% or so. What i want to know is how can u do this w/o the band as an assistance using lat pull downs.. or any exercise with a pulley.

Heres the video.

I don't understand, wouldn't you just progressively build up your pulldown weight until you were strong enough to do pull-ups?

i reckon pullups are better then pulldowns. i would stick to the 3-4 sets of 7-8 reps and build on that. if you start to struggle you can always go for assisted pullups.

You said it is hard, but if I am understanding you, you are able to complete 3-4 sets of 7-8 reps of pullups. That is very respectable IMO. Just keep building from there.

Agreed, and to take it on step further you could increase sets and decrease reps for the purpose of building raw strength. Try doing six solid sets of 3-4 with 90-120 secs in between sets. This way you can concentrate on form and cadance and then the next week or so go back to the 7-8 reps. Constantly switching it up will help you build strength in order to get yourself to a level you're happy with.

I usually add a set or two of weighted pullups somewhere in my back workout. Even if I can only rep it three or four times I just think of it as a strength builder. It doesn't have to be a lot of weight, try a five pound dumbell this week, then ten the next week or whatever. You may be surprised how much you can add, and it will make going back to weightless pullups that much easier.

yeh. ideal rep range is 8-12. ideal set range is 2-3. you already can do the 8 reps, for 4 sets. IMO, you should do two sets of 8 reps with weight. this will increase your strength much faster then waiting till you can do 5-6 sets. also with what eclipse said, after doing weight, you will find it much easier to do normal ones.
