I am going to taper this week, pretty much following the guidelines of "Tapering 3-practical applications."

Question: in terms of my carb intake, should it be lower because of the decreased volume of my workouts or should it remain the same because I am trying to supercompensate and dissipate fatique during this week?

I'd lower it because your main concern is body comp. Lower your cals as well.

Cool, any specific guidelines? I am reducing volume by 50%.

My shake is typically 40g whey and 80g dex/malt. And my daily carbs are at mid 400's. So I am guessing go for 40g whey and 40g dex/malt in the PWO shake, but I have no idea for the daily total what to shoot for.

My diet is the second post in my journal if you need more info. (although I am taking in slightly more of all nutrients currently as I needed to tweak it a little)

You likely are not using more than 500 cals during your weight workouts. So if you cut it in half that is 250 cals. Just lower your cals by that much. I agree with how you lowered your PW shake, too.

New Question:
I was thinking about employing the Layne Norton style cut (2 week cut after a 6 week bulk) right at the end of this challenge to hopefully cut any unnecessary fat gain during this bulk. However, I am pretty ectomorphic, so I was thinking about only doing it for the last 7 days prior to the final caliper measurements.

My diet would go from:
4477 Calories, 153 fat, 483 carbs, 288 protein (on a day without workouts)
To this:
3159 Calories, 134 fat, 259 carbs, 226 protein (on a day without workouts)

Side note: I only intentionally lowered carbs, the decrease in protein and fat was a side effect. My lean mass is roughly 175lbs so I am still getting roughly 1.3 grams o protein per pound of lean mass.

Any thoughts?

Anyone?
I am hoping to learn if it is a good idea or not. Plus what to expect. I have done low carb days and lost 3 pounds (I am assuming mostly water with maybe 0.5 lbs fat), but how does the body respond to a week of low carb? Will I continue to drop water fast or will it balance out and the fat loss increase (which is obviously the goal)? How much fat can I reasonably expect to drop since I am taking advantage of my raised leptin and T3?

That is quite a drop, but you are already consuming a lot of cals...I would supplement your protein meals with maybe a scoop of xtend to make sure you are getting enough BCAAs. Also maybe up your cardio to work on your insulin sensitivity.

Layne suggests about 1000 calorie drop on the info I've seen (from 500+ maintenance to 500- maintenance), with most of that coming from carbs. My drop came out to 1300 but it is just an idea at this point.
Unfortunately, I don't have xtend and it is not in the budget currently. Won't my insulin sensitivity naturally go up as I lower carbs, I am not fully understanding the reasoning behind the increased cardio for insulin sensitivity?
Can I expect to preserve my hard earned new mass if I only do this diet for a week or so?

I'd probably cut for at least 2 weeks...it's hard cause any adaptation in only 1 week...Yes, only sensitivity will likely improve with lower carbs; but it will improve more with cardio.
