Hi guys. I recently started studying the personality of Jesus. I was hoping for some help on the aspect of tolerance.
24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. 27 “The owner's servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’ 28 ” ‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ 29 ” ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’ ” Is Jesus tolerant of weeds? What about weeds in our own lives? 1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” What can I learn from this passage with respect to judging and tolerating other people? |

They are not totally related. The first discusses how there are evil people which will be born and allowed to live just as righteous people are. But there is scripture which says many "weeds" God is able to change their hearts and turn them to him. So one thing you can take out of at is God's long suffering. He wants to give everyone a chance to live their life and have an opportunity to choose.
The second one is really about the age of grace. The main thing I take out of this is that no matter what sin we have committed, God can forgive us. Now, this absolutely does not give us a license to sin, nor does it suggest God is tolerant of sin. But he is very long suffering and merciful. So it is a passage of hope to all of us.

i believe jesus and god are not tolerant of sin just because they lived a blamesless and pure life. however i believe jesus understands the temptations of sin and intercedes between us and god. I think of it as kind of jesus is my lawyer. God doesnt really understand the temptations of evil to where as jesus experienced it. thats the way i look at it.
