Default Mutli-stage release protein

I'm looking for a multi-stage release protein, something to use early in the morning so it will stay with me throughout the day. If anyone has had good results with something in particular or has a suggestion please let me know.

I'm not sure what you mean. I recommend whey in the morning and, if you can afford it, caesin before bed.

Just use whey protein.

Take it it with fats (milk, fish oils, olive oil, peanut butter, etc.) to slow digestion and absorbtion.

Take it on it's own with water to have a speedy absorbtion.

Easy as that.

Are you replying to me or the original poster? I prefer casein before bed.

Good suggestion. Do you use cottage cheese or just whey and milk?

Well, there are a lot of good combination proteins if that is what you mean. I.E. proteins that contain slow and fast digesting sources.

I have not seen any studies that compare the effects of combo proteins to single source proteins on muscle growth. Except milk (80% casein vs. 20% whey) vs. soy studies, which show that milk is more anabolic consistently. But this may be because of other reasons such as higher amino profiles.

To give you a summary: fast digesting increase protein synthesis, while slow digesting decrease protein degredation to greater extents. So the thought is a combo of both may be best for total protein balance.

So I can't really say if a combo protein would give you both the benefits of a fast and slow digesting protein. One theory is that it may act like combing a fast and slow digesting carb (i.e. fiber with sugar). You would end up getting a moderate glycemic response from this combo.

So, you might end up getting a moderate rise in proteins from the comb of fast and slow proteins. This would not be optimal for protein synthesis. Meaning that times like post workout and pre, you'd just want to have fast digesting proteins.

Now for normal meals, I could see a combo being a good idea.

One idea I have is to just add some bcaa's to your normal meals. This is fast digesting, and would improve amino profile.

But there are a lot of good combo proteins out there. In our store, low carb ultramet is probably the best choice. I use that everyday.

I use whey and milk just for ease. Before bed I mix it with fish oils and peanut butter to slow digestion even more.

I've tried the casein protein (MuscleTech's nighttime formula) and I really didn't like it. Not only was it expensive but it tasted horrible, and I had to keep an extra bottle of something else around that I could basically do the same thing with whey. I could use cottage cheese, but just for ease, I use whey.

Testify bro. I like the thought of having one less container around the house!
