I have been thinking about putting 1-2 egg whites in my post workout shake in order to take care of Essential Amino Acids, as I do not get this with my supplements. I probably already get some from Optimum Whey Protein, but I doubt this is enough. Are any of you guys doing this? And how many eggs do you use?

I've never heard of anyone doing this, but be careful with the raw eggs.....salmonella is no fun.

I would not recommend using raw egg whites. Find liquid egg whites that are pasteurized and use those instead. Reasoning behind this is that there is no risk for salmonella with the pasteurized egg whites as opposed to raw egg whites. Also, eggs need to be cooked to get the full bioavailibility from it where as the pasteurization process puts the egg whites at a higher BV.

It drives me nuts how eggs are so cheap, but it seems like just buying egg whites is expensive, perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong place?

Nice! I'll look this all up tonight on the net and then decide what to do! Especially that "Salmonella" thing...I have no idea what that is!
Thanks for the comments! |

I have been thinking about putting 1-2 egg whites in my post workout [/ QUOTE ] raw eggs = gross Raw eggs = crazy, as other have stated, you risk getting salmonella. Salmonella is a bacteria that causes typhoid fever, and all other kinds of crap you don't want to get. The risk is higher when you consume meat or other animal products without cooking them properly. Chances are it won't kill you if you get it, as it can be treated with antibiotics. But the question is: why the hell would you want to get it in the first place? Seriously, cook your eggs, you'll be safer that way |

[/ QUOTE ] Well you have a couple options. It is more expensive to buy the liquid egg whites that come in those cartons at the grocery store. I usually only drink the egg whites when I am short on time or too lazy to cook, which is only a few times a week so I don't mind, and I would rather pay more for some extra convenience. Your other option is to find a site online to order in bulk from, if your interested i can try to hunt the site down. Its cheaper this route and you get a gallon or so of egg whites, yummy! To those drinking or eating egg whites and no yolks in your diet, make sure you are supplementing with biotin as eating egg whites without the yolks can cause a biotin deficiency. |
