Default Safe amounts for vitamin C?

Hi guys, I've got multivitamins which gives me 100% RDA of vit C. However I've got separate vit c pills which provide 417% of RDA.

If i take both together i'd have 517% RDA of vit C. Are their any known side effects or could this be harmful in any way?

No, there is no such thing as "over-dosing" when talking about Vitamin C. The body will use the amount it needs, and you will urinate any excess. Taking both together is completely safe!

I'm not 100% sure if thats correct, I know taking an excess of Vitamin 'A' can cause things such as birth defects ect. and I'm pretter sure another vitmain from dietry fibre (folute?) can have serious conditions too. I'm not sure on the excate info but 500% more than the RDA is quite a lot; however, consider you are probably a lot bigger than the average person.

Maybe a quick search on google?

Most mammals can manufacture their own vitamin C. Humans and a few other species seemed to have lost this ability some where in the evolutionary process. Adult goats are known to make 13g of Vit C when healthy for example.

The RDA for Vit C is the bare minimum needed to stave off scurvy and is woefully inadequate for anyone, especially bodybuilders.

I take 3 grams on most days and 6 grams whenever I work out. When I'm sick I might take a few grams more a day but not too much more.

I read a article in Men's Health awhile back about the risks of overdosing on vitamin C. I went skimming through a couple of them but couldn't find it. I am pretty sure it puts you at a higher risk of kidney stones is you exceed about 800%. If anyone knows about this article please correct me on the details.

there will no problems, i have been taking 2000mg per day yes 2000, i'm a medical student and there is no side effects, just like the guy that posted in the first reply your body will use what is needed then it will pass out your urine, but if you noticed how often were you sick, taking all that vit.c it is not likely of you getting a cold
