This came at the worst possible time...as I was just about transition to a hardcore cut for the summer coming up here. I guess I could use a break...but man...not a two week break! I'm just afraid I'll lose all of my mass I just earned during that time...even though I know I won't...I'm still stressing about it... and btw...I can't even do cardio either.
Any tips or advice about eating during this time? I'd appreciate it. I used the equation in the 13 week article, and my maintainence (a day with doing anything) is 2066 calories...but that's such a drastic change from the average of 3,500 I was eating everyday...so I'm going to meet somewhere in the middle and plan on eating around 2,500 everyday...or do you think I should gradually lower down to 2,500 instead? I'm thinking that would be better. Forgive me...I'm not used to nutrition on days where I don't do ANYTHING. Edit - Oh yeah...and here's what my meals will look like... Meal 1: Complex Carb/Protein Meal 2: Complex Carb/Protein Meal 3: Complex Carb/Protein Meal 4: Complex Carb/Protein Meal 5: Vegetable/Protein/EFA Meal 6: Vegetable/Protein/EFA Meal 7: Vegetable/Protein/EFA With EAAs inbetween some meals.

Just like going up i would go down slow. Maybe after the first week hitting 2500 then keep going down the second week untill you hit 2200 and keep it there untill you are back in the saddle. Man that sucks sorry to here it.

Thanks man. And yeah it does suck.
I just got back. And the hardest part was actually not being able to eat for 13 or so straight hours. Oh...my....gosh.... Screw the pain of surgery...I need to stay anabolic!

I really wouldn't worry about it man. Don't stress over these things because they're so small in comparison to the bigger picture.
As for what to eat during your recovery period... I'd say keep the calories on the low-medium end since you'll be sedentary. This does depend on your own metabolism and carb tolerance as well. EAA/BCAAs would probably be helpful as well.

I agree with Xeno. You're really unlikely to lose that much muscle in two weeks. If anything it will be more of a psychological battle. Muscle tissue doesn't deteriate that easily. You're been training a good amount of time.Remember...muscle memory too.
I personally believe a one or two week break can actually do you a lot of good once in a while. This may sound crazy, but I actually take a few weeks off per year to keep myself in check (not including tapering). It is easy to become obsessed with bodybuilding. As a believer, I don't want bodybuilding to become my god. Basically, I fast from it once in a while. You know what, I come back feeling great and looking better. Overall, this hasn't affected me negatively at all. In fact, I believe it attributes to my gains. Giving your joints and tendons a rest once in a while doesn't hurt either. Just ease back into it...and get well soon bro!!

Ok...thanks guys. I'm definatley starting to feel better.
And Adam...that is interesting you mention becoming obsessed with lifting and making it "a god" so to speak. I've definately been making that mistake as of late...especially since I dropped out of college (I'm looking for a new one). I know it's good to keep striving for more in bodybuilding, but for me it seems I take it too far sometimes. It's so easy to get caught up in it. So you guys are probably right about this break being beneficial for me. I'm still just kind of worried about not eating too much and not eating too little while being inactive...but hopefully that will work itself out. Maybe it's the hardcore drugs talking...but I'm feeling more at ease now. Thanks again guys. BTW...Adam...why did you change your name bud?! And Xeno, are you still bulking up right now man? I seem to recall you were last time I heard from you. How's that going?

Your diet looks great, but you will "neeeeeed" HMB in there. This will significantly stop any muscle wasting.
To what extent will you be inactive? In other words what movements are you allowed to do? Walking, posing, isometrics?

I'm not supposed to do anything that will strain my face for two weeks (he specifically told me no weightlifting or cardio). I might be able to walk in a few days, but as of right now all I can do is sit here motionless while it still hurts so bad. And I've been having trouble eating because I can barely open my mouth...so that's another strike against me. Thanks for the suggestion of HMB. I didn't even think of that. I'll be sure to get it in.

Hey Whey Man. Hope you're feeling better now and that you've recovered from surgery.
Question: Why did you have to have your ears reconstructed? did you have an accident or get them semi-chopped off? Were they about to fall off? or was it an otoplasty? Anyway...hope you're better. I bet you can't wait to get to the gym. [/ QUOTE ] Hey thanks man. Yeah I'm doing a lot better. I'm just itching to get to the gym so badly! 2 more days! I've lost a few pounds...but hopefully I can get them back. I don't really want to start my cut until I'm back to where I was before the surgery. And my ears were just kind of big, so reconstructed them so they're more pinned to my head. If you look below this post you can kind of see my ear (post surgery). They're still all swollen and bloody in some areas, but they're doing pretty good now. The first few nights after the surgery were some of the most painful times I've ever had. And as a last note to the subject...I can't play contact sports for a few months! I'm TOTALLY bummed. Summer's coming up and..oh man...it makes me cry just thinking about it!
