I would go with before bed. Most here would advocate taking your ZMA about 30-40 minutes before your last meal of the day (which is often containing a casein based protein).

I have switched over to higher dosages. I don't think the dosages in a traditional ZMA are high enough in magnesium or b6 to be optimal... zinc either, but you have to be careful with zinc "overdose" over time.
I definitely notice a sedation with 300-400 mg magnesium on an empty stomach, and b6 assists in seratonin manufacture (gives you the crazy dreams). |

Too much Magnesium upsets my stomach. Careful not to take ZMA with other supplements containing magnesium.
