I have lifted on and off for the last couple of years. I have been lifting 5 days a week one muscle a day quite hard. I have put on quite a bit a weight in muscle and also im sure fat due to my diet, I am Now 6'3" and weight about 242. I would love to get down to 220 and keep my mass that i have or as much as possible. So anyways i decided to give the Circuit workout a try that i had read in a recent Mens Health and it kicked my butt, i couldnt belive how tired i was and also how hard it worked my legs. I really enjoyed lifting hard but i do have a good amount of fat i need to loose so, i was wondering if still going to the gym 5 days a week but doing
M Circuit T Cardio W Circuit Th Off F Cardio S Circuit Su Off Would help seeing as though circuit training seemed to get my heart rate as high as cardi would anyways. Also i have been eating less and focusing on breakfast and spread out smaller meals. I would love some advice, Thanks for all of the help. |

Hey, Jim
Welcome to the website - glad to have you here. Circuit training is very good for fat metabolism. But doing it every single workout is not optimal for hypertrophy. You will not be able to recover all your muscle groups efficiently, or train with optimal intensity (i.e. you wont be able to lift as heavy). I would advise a combination of techniques. Use 1-2 circuit training routines every 8 days, and base the rest of your split around a normal training routine, where you train 1-2 muscle groups. I would read our periodization articles here as well, http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/periodizationindex.php
