Ryan,
I have not seen any studies on the effects of gum chewing on satiety. I would need to do more research on that. Anyway that could post studies on this would be appreciated. I personally have never experienced increased hunger from having gum. The only thing I could think off that would potential increase hunger, is the cephalic insulin release, which may decrease blood sugar levels; but I would imagine this would be small.

[ QUOTE ]
Regarding chewing gum... Wouldnt the salivation produced by constant chewing increase hunger? Couldnt such a side affect offset the extra calories burned for an individual cutting if it means they find it harder to adhere to their diet? [/ QUOTE ] Actually, when I wrestled in high school, guys that were trying to make weight were always chewing gum. According to them, it actually stunted some of the hunger. No scientific basis, just saying I've heard the opposite of what you're saying.

I've heard that brushing your teeth is a great dieting strategy when you have cravings for something you shouldn't eat. Maybe both these ideas work off the strategy that "nothing tastes good after you brush your teeth"?

Well, you're supposed to do it when you've got a craving! I know that if I have a craving, I usually satisfy it before I brush my teeth... maybe if you just brush your teeth instead? Don't know. Honestly I've never tried it!
