Default indian nutrition

This post is for anyone who is from India (or knows of Indian nutrition).

I was scrolling through a page on nutrition about lentils (Toor, moong etc) and it says that toor is on the low end of protein, but rather high in carbs. Now I was wondering, if one were to cook the toor in water (to form a soft mush) and just ate that after a workout, would that equate to taking a protein shake w/sugar?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. You said that toor is low in protein, but high in carbs? How would cooking it turn it into a protein source?

You really want to include something that has a higher protein count, in order to truly call it a protein shake. It will essentially be a carb shake, which is all fine and good, but you will have to drink a loooooooot of it in order to get the same amount of protein as you would from something else like whey.

If you are vegetarian, then to each his own, however I should point out that legumes (which include beans and probably lentils) have incomplete proteins in them. What many people do is combine them with rice which has protein in it as well, but a different profile of amino acids, one which complements the amino acids in legumes in order to form a complete protein, though the amount of protein in them is very little compared to meat or whey or soy or casein.

Also, the carbs in lentils will be fairly complex and will not really serve the purpose that sugar performs in a post-workout shake. In post-workout, you really want to use simple carbs and a good protein source. Read this.

i think he means since it's on the lower end of protein, it mimics the 100 grams of carbs wtih 50 grams of protein ratio.

but definitely what T force said, netiher the carb nor the protein source is sufficient.

1.) lentil is fibrous and complex, you want, like you said, something "sugary"

2l) plant protein is incomplete.

maybe white bread with jelly, or a white skinless potato with some egg whites. or check out nonfat yogurt, i have a few indian friends and they tend to eat a lot of yogurt i think you may be able to get sometjhing better (not optimum) but better than what you mentioned.
