Default Whey Protein Expiration, how long is it good?

Got a quick general question about protein. How long does whey protein powder last after the expiration date expires. I got some whey protein at GNC the other day that expires December 6th of this year. It was a pretty good deal...Got 10 Ibs for $20 bucks. I just hope it will still be of good use and last for a while after it expires.

That's really hard to believe! I've had some protein floating around for a couple of months and still tastes fine.

Maybe they want you to have to go in and buy a new jug because it "expired".

no....see the reason they were selling it so cheap is because it was about to expire. I'm guessing it was some left over stock they have that hadn't sold yet...so since it was about to expire they discounted it. Because they can't sell it after it expires.

So I'm just asking would it still be okay and just as effective after it expires. I'm hoping it will still be good for a few months after the expiration date.

guys, he probably got it off the clearance rack, which is why it was "about to expire" and why he got such a good deal: 10pounds for 20 bucks. Think things through a little next time.

If it starts to smell or taste bad just ditch it, cause it was only 20bucks.

EDIT: Giladvalkor beat me to it

Thanks, been out of the bodybuilding zone for about 5 months now. Getting ready to pick it back up. YES YES I know. I'm ashamed. Gotta start back close to the bottom again.

"GNC Pro Performance, Whey ISO Burst" Normally $67.97 per 5 Ib container. So when I saw 2, 5 Ib containers for $20 bucks. I just couldn't pass this deal up. Even if it is about to expire!

Keep your whey in a dark, dry place and you'll be able to keep it around for awhile.

I figured he got it on sale, even if he only mentioned the price I'd think he got it on sale. this may be bad, but I have never looked at the expiration date on whey before. I only buy the 5lb tubs and go through them way before I'd figure they go bad, but its more than a month. so I wondering if expiration dates are usually close to that?

I had about half a bag of 10 lb optimum nutrition whey that I bought in july 2004..
I have been using it for 4 months and now its almost down to the bottom.

that bag didnot have any expiration date on it.

this 2+ yr old protein did show results.

and even my creatine and glutamine I am using right now are 2+ yr old ones.
they are just working fine.(but I cannot say whether they are working as effective as fresh stock)

I did add few muscles in last 4 months...
