Hi Fly,

Things were going pretty well until recently. I started a new position at work and the stress has been an issue. My workouts are still great but my diet hasn't been ideal. (Plus I've started biting my nails again; after a month of going cold turkey! *chomp, chomp, pout*) I used to do that...have you tried acylics? they help alot..

I've made some decent gains as far as strength and muscle is concerned, but my meals have left me feeling rather bloated. Great to hear with your muscle gains ..yes diet can really mess with you. Its really hard to maintain a clean diet its a daily commitment..and I look at it like that..but it sure does make a HUGE difference in your defition...plus healthier overall!!!

Thankfully tomorrow is a new day and I'm looking foward to cleaning things up.

Oh, and I do keep a journal record of my diet/workouts, but I don't post them online. I am far too novice for that. Also, I've become a lil' superstitious about it. Everytime I've posted an online journal, something happens and I have to quit. you can always lie..IM JOKING!!!!! haha...yes I can see that. I used to smoke. I smoked for 10 years and have quit now for 10 years!...and I was scared to tell anyone for that fear of failure. BUT when I went on the patch and told everyone ..I felt that REALLY helped me cause whenever I even thought of smoking I knew all these people who be dissapointed and that itself kept me from doing it. Hey Flysky,
I've been busy running around, but workouts are strong. For me, it was rekindling the diet. I am 115lbs now and looking to lean down to about 106lbs. I am only 5' 1, so this is not a gaunt weight for a shorty like me. I posted my journal as well for this morning and will be on hopefully all week.

Sounds like you are doing well yourself. What is your goal for the next two months girls?? Mine is to slowly work my way to that 106. The goal is to peak right before Christmas day. That way I will peak for my husbands work party (it's formal!!) Well, keep it coming!

Everything is going well except for one thing... I have trained consistenly without a break for 3 months straight 6 days a week since my last little 1 week rest period. My resting heart rate is staying high (a sign of overtraining) and I am very overtired with no good reason. I have decided to take a rest break and start 100% this Sunday. I am only doing cardio 3 days this week and no weight training. I think the rest will do my body good. I have a very serious spinal condition and my back has been terrible lately, so this rest will be just what the doctor ordered mentally and physically. My head will be in the game from Sunday on.

I want to get on a strict lean out program, what do you girls suggest?

I hope your back feels better Jen.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of back condition is it? I have had back problems and may be able to share some tips on what to do.

Hey OldSchool,
I was born with a Spondylosthesis of my L5. I have osteoarthritis throughout my entire spine. I was in a car accident and was hit head on. Due to an already weak spine, it was easy for more damage. As a result, I have a fracture in my cervical spine which is causing cervical spasms as well as a Spondylosthsis in my Thoracic spine. In short, I have three serious fractures, which, after I am done having children (I don't have any yet) if it worsens I will have all 3 areas fused to give my back more support.

I have a specialist that I've been with. My father has the same genetic condition and uses the same guy. In short, it's been getting pretty bad. The rest will do me good.

As for my diet, I'll post it. No, I have not been SUPER strict. I'm using the "I'll start on Sunday" excuse.

wow.. I hope it all gets better down the road for you. Did they mention that it would be ok for kids? since that front weight puts a major stress on your back.I bet you would have to be on bedrest the last part of the pregnancies then...its well worth it though My mom has had 2 fusions and a few discs removed..(genetic disc deterization) she has a condition also on her spine..I cant remmeebr the technical name, but its a hump (like ostereposis) that is on her neck on the top of her spine.she's had it sicne a teenager. I have a bad spine profile in that same area myself so it scares me .

youll be ok with your diet! just plan your meals daily and focus on that.

I would try to avoid exercises that place cause axial loading, like squats. The weight bears right down on your spine. Lunges and dumbbell squats would work better. Same with delts, overhead presses can aggravate a lower back condition. Upright rows and various raises should be your staples. I would go with what your trainer says though. Your condition is genetic, but I would guess that avoiding certain exercises may help you not to aggravate your injury as easily. This same concept holds true about how you handle weights. For example a lot of people just bend over to pick up a plate or dumbbell. I advise stooping down to pick weights up, and hold the weight close to your body as possible. This takes the strain off your back. Repeatedly lifting things off the floor with bad form can aggravate a back injury over time.

I was going to say, MSM has helped me out a lot. So has gelatin. I take combo pill of glucosamine/MSM/gelatin and chondroitin.

Thanks OldSchool. I have actually done a tremendous amount of research specifically on how to work out, etc with my condition. I follow a lot of Stuart McGill's Spine (sp?) books also. Exercise discipline to an anal degree is my forte It's just the diet that gets old!

As for the supps, why the gelatin?
