Default Okay, can I get a final once and for all answer to this stupid claim?

This is for the mods and anyone else that has very good knowlege of this. Perhaps supplying me with an article or some research that proves this stupid thing wrong...

It's the really rediculous claim that "when you drink water with your meals, it dilutes the digestive juices and you end up not digesting properly". I am sick of hearing this, because this just doesn't make sense. I asked my uncle about this, and he said it's not true and it's just another stupid pseudo-scientific claim that's been floating around for years. Even if you have a rudimentary knowlege of physiology, it should be pretty easy to realize that drinking water/liquids with your meals will not have any detrimental effects. Our bodies were designed for this, were they not?

The one time I ALWAYS get people with this is when after they are done teling me that drinking fluids with meals is bad, I then ask them "okay... so what about soup, then!?". This points a direct flaw in their arguement that they can't rebuttle, because these are the same people who go around saying things like "soup is the most amazing and best food for your body!"

I just need some solid concrete proof that dispels this annoying myth and will shut these morons up for good, because it really gets to me. Or maybe I am the one who is wrong? I need to find this out. People's opinions on this subject are welcomed as well.

Well, it's obviously stupid since there is a high content of water in anything you eat as it is.

If you ate a large meal, for instance, it would overwhelm your digestive capabilities if you didn't water it down. You would have lots of undigested food working its way through your system.

Yeah, what TForce said. I've never heard anyone saying that water or fluids harms digestion....

Oh I hear it all the time and it really gets to me. TForce, you're right. THere's enough water in the foods we eat as it is, it can't be harmful.

The fluids that your body secretes into your digestive system are probably much stronger than what is used to digest the food. Water is a required component. If you eat more than you usually do, your body probably secretes more of it.

I've been told that drinking water while eating causes your salivary glands to stop secreting. Salivary glands do provide enzymes which aid in digestion. I've never heard that drinking a lot of water after was bad for you, I've always heard the opposite.

For those of you that have never heard of this no fluids with meals myth, check this page out:

http://www.healthyhighway.com/guidelines.htm

What I would like to know is where do people come up with these lies and misinformation? WHERE?!?! WHERE!?!?

"Sugar causes bleeding noses"

"Water with your meals dilutes digestive enzymes"

"All meats are bad for you"

"Whey protein is a steroid"

"Air conditioners and a cold environment makes you fat"

"Eating steak and other red meats make you stupid"

"Eat 30 grams of protein a day for 3 weeks and your hormone levels will skyrocket to a %1000 increase"

...And the list goes on. I've heard enough of this garbage to last me 3 lifetimes. Again, WHERE and HOW do people come up with this stuff? Anyways, look at that page I gave you and count how many things you see wrong on there. If you get the correct answer, you win a cookie.
