Ok, so I live in NYC and some days I'm going to be out in the city for most of the day. I want to make my own shakes and put them in empty water bottles so that I can eat every 2 hours or so.
I'm thinking I'll just do some protein powder and oats. But I'm thinking some fiber would help slow down absorption. So, does anyone know any good fiber pills or there are commercials on TV now for that powdered fiber you can put in foods and not taste? Also, any advice, in general, on eating on the go like this would be much appreciated. Thanks |

Oats are already a fairly good source of fiber. If you want something to slow absorption, use steel cut oats and/or throw in some flax seeds in there.
Also, you can look into some time release protein if you have the $$$. |

Well, I recently visited NYC, loved your city BTW, and one suggestion I have is to utilize something NYC seemed to have a lot of... Chicken and steak on a Stick vendors! I'm Serious, they where everywhere, and I would order one but tell them to go light on the sauce and skip the bread. You get about an entire chicken breast grilled for $3. They where yummy.
As for the shake idea, I have done this a lot as well, when traveling for work or going to friends etc.. I find it is easiest for me to ground some oats in my coffee grinder, add these oats, my proteins, glutamine and creatine if it is the proper time for it to one of those sandwhich baggies. I tie a knot in the baggy to seal it shut. Then when I am ready to use it, I will tear out a small part from the a corner of the baggy, thus creating a funnel of sorts that will allow you to easily work the protein into a water bottle or any other cup. Just be careful pulling out sealed bags of powder in NYC. Someone might think you are up to something, lol.

Good info guys. So, what if I'm on a low carb day and I want to do a shake with whey and with a whey/casien blend I have. Would adding fiber to something like that be a good idea?

[/ QUOTE ] You can add fiber if you like. The whey/casien blended protein should be absorbed slowly enough. I would recommend adding fiber if you dont get enough from your diet, otherwise leave it to the leafy greens. |
