that's great and fasting is a great time to connect with God! Good luck.

Now, I've fasted a few times, not for 40 days mind you, but each time they are only fasts without food, not water. I'm not exactly sure about this, but I think if you set out to fast for 40 days, more than a month, without water, you will surly die. I think it's really lucky if someone can go past 10 days without water, let alone 40.

When I read about Jesus fasting for 40 days, I think he drank water. It says:

"And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry." (Matt. 4:2) The Bible doesn't say he was thirsty, just hungry. So I think it's safe to say that Jesus had water(even in the wilderness) because the necessity of water is far greater than for food, thus that would be the first thing the gospel writers would have listed: he was thirsty.

And also in the very next verse:
"Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."" Satan only tempted Jesus with food, not water. So, this also supports that Jesus was only fasting from food.

I think it's safe to say that a fast consists of water.

yeah, you will be hooked up to an iv in 6 days flat w/o water. You will most likly lose all the muscle you have. But good luck none the less.

A friend of mine fasted for 5 days (no food or water). That is rather extreme. My mother has fasted as long as 21 days but that was food only.

The purpose or motivation for the fast is of utmost importance. It is a spiritual exercise, not to be taken lightly.

God Bless,
W.B.

I agree. I believe fastin should be more about getting closer to God, so as long as that is your focus and not seeing if you can go 40 days without food go for it.

I would say that I think water is something you need for the mositure in your body. I have never fasted that long and would actually be kinda unsure of doing it. May God Bless and if it's for his Glory! So be it!

Two of my teachers at my Christian Highschool did a 40 day fast. They were allowed to have water and some veggie/fruit juice. They were both pretty emaciated at the end of it. Also, they had a program to ease themselves off of the fast, as food will be rough on your body after fasting 40 days.
