Default Sugar question again. :)

Ok so if your eating between 7 and 8 meals a day. What would you suggest to make sure your sugar content of each meal is not spiking your insulin? Like how many grams of sugar per meal?

Im 5'7 at 221 lbs right now and work out 6 days a week if that helps.

I don't understand what you mean. You don't intentionally want to add extra sugar to any of your meals or it will cause an insulin surge in your bloodstream, that will later turn into a bloodsugar low, that will later still lead to fat storage.
I don't have a gram figure to give you.

The only times your body needs an insulin spike are first thing in the morning, when cortisol levels are extremely high, and immediately after a workout.

well I mean if you eat a sandwitch. The bread may have sugar in it. Or if you eat a peice of fruit. My protien shake says its less than 1 gram per serving but i take three serving at 1 time thats atleast 2 grams of sugar. My question is what is the general threshold. Like do you want no more than 2 grams 4 grams 6 grams per meal? Thanks in advance.

i'd say as long as you're not eating sugar-rich foods (fruits, candy, chocolate) you shouldn't worry about it. at least that's how i go about it, but to be honost i'm not really sure about an actual numerical amount per meal.

The definition of sugar includes any refined sugars, corn syrups, true sugar sweeteners, etc. Sandwiches shouldn't have any sugars unless you are putting grape jelly on it. Bread is made up of starches, which take a while to digest, dependind on whether or not it is whole wheat or white. Whole wheat is preferred, since it takes longer to digest and is fed into your system gradually.

The little 1 gram of sugar in your protein shake probably isn't enough to be considered valid for an insulin spike, when you consider that you are supposed to be putting 100 g of sugar in your PWO shake, so that is probably not hurting you.

Well i love apples and i wish i could continue eating them. But im afraid they are sabotaging me. Some wheat bread i have seen can have as much as 6 grams of sugar per slice.

stop eating bread for complex carbs and get some yams and brown rice

on another note, i typically try to keep sugars as low as possible, but i don't omit them completely from my diet. for instance, i use Silk Vanilla soy milk in my coffee... 6g sugar per cup of milk, but i use maybe a tablespoon or two so it doesn't matter really.

other than that, i don't bother keeping an eye on my sugar intake because i know the foods i'm eating don't contain much. if i was having a cheat meal, i think i would still be conscious of my sugar intake just out of habit.

my friend's roomate has these sweet candy bars that are called Carb Solutions... they have no carbs whatsoever and they're like caramellos. 130cal/7g fat but that's one hell of a good cheat food.
