Default fried chicken question

obviously fried chicken is bad for you...

i was wondering how much of the fat/oil is absorbed into the chicken itself? i guess what i'm trying to ask is, how bad would it be for you if you took all the crust/skin/whatever it is, off of the chicken?

for instance, in one of the salad bars at school they have cut-up fried chicken patties for topping. so if you wanted to break down one KIND of fried chicken, i guess i would be mainly asking about a fried chicken patty.

no, i've never eaten them and yes, there is tuna also which i do get. lol. this is just for expanding my own food knowledge.

Chicken breast fried in extra virgin olive oil is fine.

Chicken patties are usually made of mechanically separated "meat" products. Usually this consists of the meat remaining on the bones, and is high in fat, gristle and coagulated blood.

Unless the patty states "100% breast meat" I would not trust it as far as I could throw it. Plus I would not fry using extra virgin olive oil because it has a low smoke point and breaks down easily rendering the qualities of the oil useless.

Personally I never fry meat, and either bbq it, broil it or cook it in a George Foreman. If you are going to cook a chicken breast in a frying pan then just lightly coat the pan with vegetable or canola oil (wiping excess off with a paper towel), and only use enough to easily allow the chicken to "release" from the pan when you flip it.

As long as it's a healthy oil, it's ok. It still contains fat, so watch out for the calories if you're cutting, but as long as it's unsaturated, you're ok healthwise.
