Every time I have steak, I notice almost immediately I have better pumps in the weight room, my performance increases, and most notably, my feeling of well being shoots up. Does anyone else notice this? President notices the same trend, and I have talked to several other athletes that do.
Our featured athlete… ![]() Jason Williams, swears by steak. He says nothing else makes him grow like it. What do you guys think the mechanism is that steak works through? The President and I have some thoughts, but I would like to hear your guys, first.

Very interesting thoughts! I perhaps dont eat steak often enough to notice such a difference.
I believe steak has a higher creatine content than most other meats. This might be an explanation for beginners or for those not supplementing with creatine monohydrate. However in your case, this little extra creatine would hardly make a difference as through supplementation you are probably already up and the upper limits of total muscle creatine content. Perhaps its just because it tastes so darn good! that drives up your feeling of wellbeing, driving up your self efficacy, improving your overall performance!!

Ryan,
I think your theory is one of the reasons why old school weight lifters, before creatine supplementation grew notably due to a great deal of meat intake, especially steak.

I have seen recent research (I'll try to see if I can find it again) that suggests red meat produces a considerable insulin spike, this could be the reason for the increased pumps.

Good thing I saw this post. I just had 6 0z steak in dinner date with my wife(it's her birthday and I promised she'd pick the restaurant). It's actually my first meal with red meat after the 12 week program of just eating chicken breast and oatmeal. At least I won't die of guilt eating it! I'll check if it has the same boosting effect on me after I hit the gym tomorrow.

ah yeah, steak does awesome for preworkout meal. I eat about 10oz eye of round steak and 10oz white rice 1.5hrs before training. Insane pumps and vascularity, especially when combined with NO-Xplode!!!!

I've never really noticed any difference. Maybe I'm a steak non-responder. But then again, I never really paid much attention to it.
