so i was thinking about taking some BCAA. what are the major benefits of them and when are you suppose to take them?

bcaa have major ergogenic benefits. first, the 3 aminos that make it up leucine, isoleucine, and valine are probably the most important in regulating protein synthesis. also the help to stunt muscle breakdown, for instance taken preworkout would save the muscle and keep it near a positive muscle balance.
the best time to take it would be about 15-30 minutes pre workout. second best would be postworkout. on a side note, dont use pills because less effective and too expensive.

Great breakdown!
One cool thing about BCAAs is that they are not efficiently taken up by Splanchnic tissues such as the liver and gut, meaning more of these aminos, relative to others are available for protein synthesis following ingestion. their own house brand is 500 grams for $25.00 or 1000 grams for $40.00, or for a flavored one you could check out scivation xtend roughly 1000 grams but around $50-55.00. but, being as how u would prolly use preworkout at 15-20 grams a workout. if u workout 5 days a week, u would get upwards of 2 months use for the larger ones.
