Default Favorite Books

Alright all, in light of the recent thread about workout music, I wanted to see what everyone's favorite NON bodybuilding books are.

I'll post some of my favorites, but I am interested in some good ones, or any books people highly recommend. Or any favorite authors, too.

So, post books and authors you like in here

(and no need to try to impress us with like: I read the Dictionary from cover to cover every year! or anything.)

The "catcher in the rye" by JD Salinger is one of the few books I have read multiple times.

As a teenager (around 12-14) I loved the book "Fade" by Robert Cormier.

More recently the "secret history" by Donna Tartt was a big favourite of mine.

in terms of non-fiction, I really enjoyed "in black and white" by Donald McRae which is all about the lives of Joe Louis and Jesse Owens, two true american heroes.

Here are two other non-fiction books I read recently which were fascinating!!!

"Freakonomics"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN...3794770-9217246

This one is very hard to describe... its basically about everything!! Hugely interesting it covers everything from abortion, to trust, to baby names, to crack dealing. It is fascinating.

and "Phantoms in the Brain"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN...3794770-9217246

This is written by a world famous neurologist and is about all the incredibly strange brain conditions he has come across during his career. despite the subject of interest it is really well written and very accessible for those who dont know a huge amount about science or the brain.

I think I've posted this one before - it was the last book I read.
"90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper.
It is a most excellent and inspirational read.

So far anything by Raymond E. Feist
http://www.crydee.com/body04010403alternate.htm
I actually just finished "Rise of a Merchant Prince"

Feist is sort of like Tolkein...but interesting.
Tolkein has long DRY gaps in his books, where Feist does not.

Very Very good books.

Other than that, I really like:
Clive Cussler.
Dark Tower Series by Stephen King.

I also really loved "The Ender Saga" Four books by Orson Scott Card. Very good books.

I'm sure there are others.

Anything by Tom Clancy, but not the ones that he collaborated with people on.
Also pretty much any history book, with a bias towards World War 2 and American history. I just read a great bio on Abe Lincoln that focused on his ability to keep his cabinet members from letting their egos come into conflict during the Civil War.
Im also a sucker for any book about the Ford Mustang, especially if it has nice color photographs.

I agree, this was a great book Ryan! If you like this type then I highly recommend Malcom Gladwell's "The Tipping Point" and "Blink"

Fiction
Anything by Dan Brown- The Da Vinci Code was the most intense fiction book I have ever read. All of his books are good though.

Stephen King- His short stories are good-the last rung on the ladder and survivor type are both amazing. I don't really like his horror though.

Alice Seabold- The Lovely Bones.

Non-Fiction

Michael Shermer is my favorite author right now.
