I havent dislocated a shoulder before, but I did dislocate my knee last spring. Are you going through any rehab treatment? My rehab, once I got the immobilizer off, consisted of a bike ride, stretching, some leg extension and leg curl work, and then more stretching. I did this three times a week for about 2 months. After that it was just a matter of seeing what the leg could handle and what I was psychologically prepared for. I just started doing deep squats again, but Im sure I could have started months ago. I wont say the the knee is as good as new, because it has been a little off ever since 8th grade when I took a helmet on the kneecap during football practice, but it is strong enough to take whatever I throw at it.

I hope that some of this is relevant to your question. My advice from experience, not a medical education, is to take your rehab seriously, then gradually work your way back up in poundage and intensity.

I would reccommend only doing LIGHT exercises. Take a 10-15lb dumbell (or whatever seems light for you) and do some high rep exercises for your rotator cuff and some raises. Do it just enough to keep the shoulder warm and strong. Don't do anything heavy or to failure. Just be serious about your rehab, and don't do anything heavy until it's fully recovered.
