sorry, I accidently posted this in the Training section when it should have been posted under Nutrition. Anyway...
I've been using this Non-Sugar Sweetener and was wondering if it was ok or should I go with the Splenda or something different....The ingredients of the one I am using is ......... Serving Size 1 packet Dextrose with Maltodextrin, Aspartame Calories - 0 Sodium - 0 Protein - 0 Carbs. - 1g contains Phenylalanine It usually takes between 5 to 10 packets to get the desired sweetness. It's not a very sweet alternative. But I already have a whole box full. So...would this sugar substitute be okay or should I go with something else. Giladvalkor |

I would choose a sucralose sweetener (Splenda) over one that contains Aspartame.

Both Stevia and Splenda are decent sweetners, although Splenda is the only one I've ever heard of a dietician recommending.

Hey guys, you may want to search here for old posts concerning stevia. Joe brought up some alarming alerts.

Yeah, think twice about stevia - just because it's natural doesn't mean it's safe.

I cannot use Splenda. I get horrible abdominal pains and diarrhea that lasts about three days.
My sister happens to have similar symptoms that I have, she found it by accident when she realized that everytime she drank drinks sweetened with Splenda, she would have diarrhea and abdominal pains. We found out about these symptoms separately and independently since she lives in Chicago and I live in California. We saw each other at her daughter's (my niece) wedding last July. If you do not get abdominal cramps and diarrhea, that may be great or maybe not! The manufacturer may claim that it is safe and that Splenda (Sucralose) goes through the digestive system totally unabsorbed. The question is for those people who is able to absorb the Splenda, what would be the future consequences of admitting a substance never found in nature into the body ? Some researchers found that Sucralose may shrink Thymus Gland, cause enlargement of liver and calcification of kidneys. Sucralose is manufactured by chlorinating hydrocarbon molecules. I think the best thing is to not sweeten anything and just get used to the natural flavor of whatever you are eating. I drink my iced tea totally without any sweeteners.

A certain percentage of people always have allergic reactions to some products. I mean you can kill some people by beaning them in the head with a peanut due to allergies. That some people are allergic to splenda does not detract from it's safety. Plus if you have found research on medical problems caused by splenda feel free to provide references to this documented information.

[/ QUOTE ] This I completely agree with. Just get used to the taste, and if you have to have something sweet...eat something with sugar in it...go on, you deserve it As for tea, I cannot STAND iced tea sweetened. It's a nasty taste I just can't wait to get out of my mouth. I love plain iced tea though. I've heard there have been no long term scientific studies of using sucralose in humans. If there has, I'd love to read it. It sounds dangerous to me.
