Default Beans ?

Are beans considered a clean food?

They seem to have high calories, low fat, and high protein so they seem good on a bulk?

Am I wrong?

I'm not sure about ALL kinds of beans, but yes, beans are good whether cutting or bulking. I suggest not going with canned beans though. Just cook the beans yourself. I love black beans mixed with brown rice as a side dish to chicken breast. Yum!

Actually canned beans are fine as long as they are not the "baked in molasses kind". You may want to wash them off to get rid of some of the salt, but they are a decent alternative.

When I use canned beans, I always thoroughly rinse them under running water to wash away the syrup that they can them with. This removes some of the sodium and other additives that the manufacturer uses. Always use fresh beans if you have the time.

Some beans are low GI, so are a solid source of carbs. However, they are an average source of protein.

To elaborate, Protein quality is determined by the ability of protein to provide essential amino acids. For example, while beans and eggs are similar in density (grams of protein per calories), eggs are way higher quality.

Further, they are less readily absorped. For instance, 95% of meat, egg, and milk proteins are absorbed, where as corn, wheat, oatmeal are rank at 85 %, and beans at 78 %.
