[/ QUOTE ] If someone told you this do yourself a favor and never listen to another piece of advice from them again. A banana will not promote fat loss, if anything the sugars will only promote fat storage. To the original poster, I would say you can comsume a protein and fibrous carbs pre-cardio but a small portion of complex carbs would not be a bad idea even that late at night.

It depends on whether you're cutting or your bulking. If you're cutting, I'd suggest keeping the oatmeal to perhaps to only 20-25g, pre-cardio.

20-25g of carbs or 20-25g of oatmeal itself?

Oatmeal itself. This may seem like a very small amount but it should be fine to get you through a cardio session.

In general this is specific to the individual and how it fits with one's macros. On a cut I keep all my starchy carbs in the first half of the day. If 16g of carbs before cardio and 16g after fit into your macros appropriately, then I say go for it. This may require you to remove some carbs from your earlier meals.
