Default Just came back from Tijuana

We had a church project in a poor neighborhood in Tijuana where the roads are still dirt roads (my car's shocks never had so much exercise !) and we had it in the bull/rodeo ring. Several churches and people participated from all over California. Coming from Lake Tahoe, San Jose, Lake Elsinore, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Fontana-Rialto, Long Beach....

We had medical doctors, dentists, eye doctor (note the singular ...), hair cutters, acupuncturists ( !! ) and herbalists... The Korean Presbyterian church in Los Angeles sent the most people and had like three busful of volunteers. They also cooked up hamburgers on the grill and probably served over 500...

In the evening we had a worship / drama / preaching service.

I am so glad that the Mexican churches were active in doing the service. They did the music and the drama. What we Americans did was to pay for the venue and put together the churches and work together as one. It was the first time that different churches in Tijuana worked together. It was not easy. There were many challenges.

We had quite a few folks in the audience that accepted Jesus as their Saviour.

Thanks !

And I got quite a compliment from the San Jose team. They noticed I was getting "big" and asked if I was working out...

No, no, no!

The real question here is: How many tacos/enchiladas/ropa vieja/ did you eat? THAT is what I want to know! LOL And..did you ride a bull? Where are the pictures?!

Great job all involved!

I ate ONE hamburger on the day of the event. That night when we came back we had 4 carne asada tacos with one large Agua Fresca de Jamaica.

Sunday was a cheat day and the hotel had a buffet...

Lesse what I ate:

Carne de Res en salsa de mole (beef stew in mole sauce)
Pollo in salsa de crema (chicken in white sauce)
Sopa de Cordero en Barbacoa ( Barbecued Lamb soup )
Tortilla Espanola con champinon, cebolla, tomate y queso (Spanish Omelette with mushrooms, onions, tomato and cheese)
jugo de naranja y toronja (freshly squeezed orange juice and grapefruits)
Pastel de tres leches ( three milk cake )
Pastel de chocolate (chocolate cake)
Flan
Ensalada de frutas frescas (fresh fruit salads: pineapple, papaya)
Yogurt de Durazno (peach yogurt)

Tijuana was a real eye opener for me, i went there on a missions trip (you can read about it in the spiritual training journal)

was that your first time doing something like that? That's really cool!

the food was awesome when we went down there, some of the best i've ever had! the family that we helped cooked food for us that rivaled any restaurant that we had been to

We already went there several times but this is the first time we did on such a large scale using doctors and other people...last time we just prayed for them in their churches.

Yes the tamales that the pastor's mom made was really awesome. It was shrimp taco and it was WHOLE shrimp...meaning it had the head, the tail the shells the legs...everything...one just spits out the unchewable parts..lol

Yjay's awesome! We have somthing similar to that in our area. It's the convoy of hope. We have Dr's and Barbers and dentists etc comae and check everyone out. We have clothing, coats and shoes available as well as toys and household goods and we have several Christian Bands that play in various locations and times and the we have the pastors from the churches that participate give sermons. It's great! It's somthing I really enjoy being a part of! I like working in the kids section doing games and talking with them.
