you see, im not a fan of screamers, if its a hard lift, go ahead and let a noise or two slip.. its amusing for the rest of us.
but when you scream on every rep, of an 8 rep set,for 3 sets and your squatting 170lbs total, and you weigh roughly 200lbs @ 10% bf... shut up! the rest of us dont want to hear it. *sorry to those of you who scream. that was the scenario of what happened today in the gym. everyone in the gym watched this one guy, cuz every day he comes in and screames on every rep of every set - loud. and his lifts aren't exceptional either.. i dont mean to sound like a grouch, but normal people dont want to put up with this. so please think of your neighbors next time you'd like to let it out! lol.

I think his point was that the guy is squatting less than his body weight. I agree though. Screaming/grunting is distracting to everyone else - it's not necessary for completing a rep!

We used to have a trio of screamers..they pissed off the entire gym one day the owner (who is about 5,9 250 @ 14%) just told them to **** off basically.
1 of them was a chest/abs/bicep monkey with invisible lat syndrome Another one of them was about the same weigh of the owner except double the bodyfat. I remember he was doing hammer curls in front of me and for every single rep he'd throw his entire body into it and make this annoying as hell grunt The last guy was relatively OK, he would just scream out stuff like "1 more" and "come on" to himself..thats alright I guess if he didn't do it for almost half his set |

i don't scream i make more of a "tsssst" sound when i am really struggling with a set, and by "tssst" i mean the sound that come from blowing out air really hard hehe. It works better than screaming for me and doesn't make as much noise. I still get some guys look at me but when i am front squatting what you are back squating in a smith machine you should be looking at me as someone you should push as hard as

By using stricter form, slower negatives, and stretching between sets you can get an incredible pump in all your workouts. Numbers are an abstraction, especially to muscles. Your body doesn’t know the absolute weight of what you lift, it only recognizes how heavy it feels. The secret is to make lighter weights feel heavier. IMO a guy can scream as loud as he wants if he is pushing himself (e.g. Dorian Yates) but not if they're just trying to be a poser

If it works for you, do it. I do alot of grunts and strains of different sorts but its because i usually push myself to failure. But i know that i am pushing myself to the limit and half these guys in the gym arnt. Sure i may get looks every now and then but hey, who cares? Its working for me
