I am following a high protein/low carb diet due to health reasons (per doctors advice). I will have to follow this kind of eating plan for the rest of my life. I work out with a trainer 2 days a week and need to know what I should be eating/drinking after my weight training. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) , and following a high protein/low carb diet helps with all the symptoms. I have been following this kind of diet for over a year now, and have gone down from a size 18 to a size 12, plus my cycles have regulated to once a month instead of 3 times a year since I was a teenager. Diabetes is heavy on both sides of my family as well as heart disease - if left untreated, PCOS can lead to both of these.

Hey there, welcome to the boards! There is a lot of information here that you should find useful. To answer your question about what you should be ingesting post-workout, follow this link: http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/magaz...pportunity.htm
It outlines the post-workout protocol that we all live by here at ABC. It's pretty hardcore, but I think you'll benefit from following it. Good luck!

[/ QUOTE ] First I would like to welcome you to the boards and congratulate you on the weight loss. I am also curious as to how many grams of carbs are consuming per day on average? I assume you are asking for an alternative to the recommended post workout nutrition due to the sugar content in the "window of opportunity"? http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/windowofopportunity.php However, post workout is an entirely different time with different biological needs. Insulin spiking post workout is necessary and will not lead to Diabetes. Insulin spiking other times of the day will. While saying that, I also will tell you to consult your Doctor first, since there could be something about your condition that we are not aware of.

Ok.... I try to keep my carb count around 30 - 50 a day. I get most of my carbs from low GI fruits & veggies. When given the info on what to eat post workout, should I even count those carbs towards my totals for the day?
