I had some blood work done the other day and one of my liver enzymes had a high output. I had the test done because my stomach was weak, not nauseated, just hard to eat food sometimes. The doctor asked about my diet and she told me it was fine, though she didnt ask how much protein I was ingesting. The doctor did say that this high liver enzyme was of no concern...just to get my blood checked again in a few weeks.
I know the recommended range of protein is 1-2 g per body weight...some use lean body mass. Right now I am ingesting close to 1.5 grams per body weight (158 lbs). Ever since I have started bulking I have been in this 1.5 range, so I am not sure why it would be bothering me now. Other than discolored skin, are there any other signs of taking in too much protein? Thanks! |

Elevated liver enzymes are very common in bodybuilders as a result of tissue breakdown and the livers role in that regard. For a year I was going through tests to figure out the cause of high enzymes, but it wasnt until I took 4 days off prior to a blood test that they came back to normal. Try taking a few days of the gym (I know its hard) before your next test and I bet they will subside back to normal ranges.
