Default All done =)

Thank you so much everyone for all of the support!

Well, I'm all done. Yay!!! (LOL). This week was a whirlwind, and as always, an incredible learning experience. I am happy with the outcome of both days, and can't wait to compete again in the fall.

Thursday kind of threw a wrench into my entire prep. I think I had a combination of an electrolyte imbalance and some kind of bug - I ended up getting pretty sick Thursday afternoon Laid in bed with a debilitating headache, a very unhappy stomach, etc etc. No fun. Couldn't even raise my head, so, no workout, didn't think it was a smart idea to finish my salt for the day, and skipped 2 meals (for the first time in 4 months, I physically couldn't eat!). Next time around...I need to be sure to pay more attention to my potassium intake, make sure I steer clear from sick people, and be more careful about washing my hands, not touching my face at the gym, and all that. Definitely not happy that all of this happened 2 days before the show, but did a reasonably good job letting it go. Nothing you can do but learn for next time!

3 pt bodyfat test on Friday came out to be 16.5. Not bad, considering I was definitely higher than that last October!

Saturday: Fitness Atlantic, East Haven CT
All in all, I had a good time at this show, despite some disappointment in the judging (for the entire show). I ended up placing 5th in my class (novice women), weighing in at 128 Fri night (scale was a bit heavy). Had a bunch of friends competing, and had a fantastic time hanging out backstage and with my team and friends, and talking with other competitors. I was definitely less nervous than last October, but still nervous - but I know that the more I get up on stage, the less nervous I'll be Learned here that the head judge can make or break a show. The head judge called poses WAAAAY to fast; my class was on stage for 5 minutes, if that, which is pretty ridiculous. Other competitors, and even the judges, had the same complaint. Oh well! Still a good experience, just not sure if I would compete in this show again.

Sunday: NPC New Englands
My vow: I will never again compete in a non-tested show, and I'm glad that I competed in this one so that now I know! Not my scene at all; I felt incredibly uncomfortable, and the atmosphere and attitudes took away everything that I enjoy about show day. I really look forward to talking with other competitors and hanging out backstage - the vast majority of people competing on Sunday were there for themselves only. Ended up placing 5th in my class here as well (weighed in at 128.8).

Overall, I had a great weekend, and learned SO much this contest prep. I'll have some pics up soon!

Contest Day Schedule

3-4 am: 2 oz chicken, 1/4 c sweet potato
7-8 am: 3 oz steak, 1/4 c brown rice
Slow 20 min workout
2 hrs later: 1/3 protein bar, 1/4 banana
2 hrs later: 2 oz steak, 1/4 c sweet potato
30 min before going on stage: 1 rice cake w/1 T peanut butter + 1 T jelly
2 hrs later: 3 oz steak, 1/4 c brown rice
2 hrs later: 1/3 protein bar, 1/4 banana
2 hrs later: 2 oz steak, 1/4 c sweet potato
30 min before going on stage: 1 rice cake w/1 T peanut butter + 1 T jelly

4 oz water with every meal

Looking ahead: I am planning on competing again Oct 28 and Nov 4. Need to decide which show I want to be the "main" event. 16+1 weeks out (16 + 1 final week) is July 3rd! I want to compete around 10-11% bf, which would put me at 116-118 lbs - wouldn't it be fun to sneak in as a lightweight My goal now for the "off season" is to stay about 8-10 lbs over my contest weight (so, 136-138). Starting back on numbers tomorrow (50/165/165), and will bump that up to 60/170/170 starting next week.

Congrats Kristen! It sounds like you did a fantastic job and gained some valuable experience. I'm extremely happy for you. It takes a lot to get up in front of all those people and put it all out there - you should be proud!
