So my dad comes up to me and says, 'im going to allow you to take protein powder, but absolutely nothing else....your not taking creating are you?' im just like 'ummm....' because i had been taking creating for the past 6 weeks. He says their going to mess up my body and that im still growing and dont need those things at 16. He then tried to backup his argument by saying that the people in prison are huge and all they do is eat and lift and they dont take any supplements. Is there any truth to his claims of supp. hindering my growth? Iv been taking creating, glutamine, and a BCAA and was planning on getting a multi-vitamin. I still take glutamine and the BCAA on the slide and im taing a week off from the creating but its time to by more so i just dont know what to do. I dont know where they sell maltodextrin or dextros and there NO WAY their going to let me order it online so im stuck w/o those in my PWO shake too. . Any advice?

Yeah I had this problem, my dad even laughed off the idea of body fat testing saying it was a load of BS! So I bought my own calipers and got my mum to pay for whey, maltodextrin and dextrose because I explained they were just powdered forms of food.
Try that argument on him. |

[ QUOTE ]
Show him this website. We have articles on each of these supplements. As for dextrose and maltodextrin, you can find them at bulk food stores. [/ QUOTE ] I agree, also if he doesn't let you use Dextrose and Maltodextrin, tell him he is not allowed Sucrose(table sugar) in his coffee(or wherever he may use it).

as long as you leanr enough about the these supplements yourself, and are able to argue yourself out of every possible (BS) side effect and why they are all just rumors, then they should be able to allow you to take them. thats what i did when i was younger with my parents.
they were the ones saying creatine causes growth stunting, acne, diabetes, and all this other completely inaccurate garbage.

First off its Creatine not Creating. Second, do some reading and get the facts straight in your head, then show him the articles from this website. If he still doesn't want you using them there isn't much you can do. You've got plenty of years ahead of you and most people at 16 don't take supplements. Keep working hard and before you know it you'll be 18 and your pops will respect your decision.

I had a similar problem when I was 17, my parents were saying that I didn't need to take creatine cause I was still growing and the fact that they thought it was a steroid too didn't help. But after researching it, and talking to a family friend (a registered dietician/nutritionist) and explaining that it wasn't a steroid and that it basically pulls water into your muscles, they allowed me to take it, and I've been taking it on and off for the last 7 years. Educate you and your dad about it and (any product really) then whatever decision he makes respect it.

You just have to break your parents in. Mine used to be the same way when I brought home whey. Every few months I would have a new container and they got used to it eventually. Then I started buying L-Glutamine. They saw that and got mad, but finally adjusted. Then i got some No2(they were right about that one.. it WAS crap and didn't do anything). Now I have whey, creatine, hydroxycut and L-Glutamine in my room and they no longer say anything. Of course having a credit card does help. Anyway, my point is, keep trying to buy the stuff and they will eventually give in. Just don't ever get sick or injured because they will instantly try to blame it on the supplements even when it clearly has nothing to do with them. All parents do this. I don't know where they all got that manual from. Well, this slow breaking in process should work out fine for you.
If you are still having trouble when you come home with a supplement and they yell at you for 30 min, try the classic I KNOW... I KNOW.... and walk away. It works every time. |
