Default Why do they teach nutrition in high school?

My Food and Nutrition teacher has a degree in psychology, she teaches the 1990 canadian food guide please, it's 15 years old. Not to mention canada is'nt exactly at the forefront of nutrition. She recommends macros of 10-15/55-60/30 ???? She did'nt know what cortisol whenever I brought it up during a musclular dystrophy discussion I explained it along with corticosteroids and she told me steroids were not supported at school (what the hell) then I reiterated and asked what she tought, and she said it probably did'nt relate at all.......what an idiot...and she's a stuck up hottie so she won't admit defeat. I can't wait for my exercise science class next year.. I wonder it they'll keep up with me?

Good for you man for knowing your stuff.

I'm in college and during my bio lab speach about insulin and glucagon, the teacher said, "now how big of a carbohydrate is glucagon?" I stopped talking to the whole class and just lectured the teacher for about 8 minutes about the difference between glucagon and glycogen.

I felt bad afterwards for the apparent disrespect, but I was frustrated that she didn't know anything.

No one in the class ever forgot that day.

I definitely know what you mean man!

My nurtrition teachers are so stupid. They don't know anything about anything. They just give you a recipe and tell you to make it.

It's so fun thought because we can do whatever we want . Once a week, we're allowed to make something that we want and we bring the stuff in and make it (if time permits); otherwise, we eat it the next day.

I can't stand it man. Haha, she does'nt know much about hormones, I kinda brough it up she said it was irrelevant, I just said how is nutrient partioning and bio-energetics irrelevant to nutrition. Now remember i'm just 18 (2 days ago ) and i'm telling her this.....it's all a power trip anyways, I just feel bad that people get fed this crap.
