Default Rotator Cuff?

Hi, I just wanted to post about something that's been bothering me for a while, and I'm not really sure if it's a rotator cuff problem or even a problem at all, but it's weird still. The front part of my side delt (where it meets the front delt) seems to be longer than my right, and I don't just mean bigger, it appears to come right up to my collar bone whereas there is a gap between my collar bone and right side delt. It also feels different when I am doing certain shoulder exercises, when I do a front dumbell raise I feel it a lot more in my side delt than I do in my right. Also, when I flex my traps and shoulder forward, sometimes I can feel a little popping in my left shoulder, and also sometimes when I rotate it back. My main concern though is the unevenness of my left and right side delts, I mean my left isn't just bigger, it appears as though it looks entirely different than my right, it's really weird, anyone know why this might be?

Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

Default Re: Rotator Cuff?

I have the opposite problem.

You should note that the anterior deltoid is attached to the clavical (collarbone), whereas the lateral deltoid is attached to the acromion of the scapula (shoulder blade), the rotator cuff lies completely beneath the deltoids. This naturally leaves a space without muscle between them. Since the muscles of my own right shoulder are bigger than my left, they fill in this triangular void better. To help equalize these differences in my arms and shoulders I have been following only the strictest form in exercises affecting them. Cheating techniques seem to always allow the weaker side to avoid it's fair share of the exercise - resulting in less growth. Strict form with lighter weight will put the load on the weak side and help it catch up.

The alternative to this would be a previous injury or natural non-symmetry from birth. Popping in the joint is not a reason for excessive alarm unless it is accompanied by pain or weakness. Just be careful not to overextend the joint on exercises like wide grip bench or front and side raises.

Hope this helps!

Default Re: Rotator Cuff?

Hey Gort,

Thanks for the knowledge. I actually had a similar concern and have dropped my weight. I have noticed that my weaker arm has started to gain some muscle back. Of course it will take time...but your advice is appreciated.
