Due to tendonitis in my elbow, my doctor wants me to avoid exercises where the tricep is a primary or secondary mover. All I can think of is lat pull downs for back, machine chest flys and shoulder exercises with extended arms. Any other ideas? I really miss working upper body--on the other hand, lower body is looking awesome due to all the additional work its getting.

don't forget rowing movements for your back, i think you're SOL for your chest, just do the incline, flat, and decline ranges and what about pullovers? Clueless on shoulders atm, tho sorry.

There is a phase where you need to rest to allow the inflammation to deflame. But after that you need to work on stretching and re-strengthening under the supervision of specialist. After the tendon heals the scar tissue can make the tendon even less flexible. I would ask him to prescribe you to physical therapy, or better yet find a sports doctor under your insurance plan.

Not considered chronic yet. Presently on anti-inflammatories for 10 days and then a follow up check up. I definately will be asking for a sports doctor.
In the the meantime, would it not be ok to do some upper body where the tricep isn't a primary/secondary mover? I don't want to lose all of the gains I made and become flabby girl again.

I would just hold off for the 10 days. Nearly every upper body exercise incorporates the triceps to some extent.
To avoid a chronic condition, I would wait the alloted 10 days, then slowly work into your program. I know its a bummer, but its the best thing for your body.

And you're not going to lose all that much in 10 days...6 months, 9 months, 12 months...yes. That's where I am.

hmm, me did not understand that the elbow shouldn't be used at all.. If you must, you can still do fly movement. But sometimes a break is good for you. Lets you come back with a vengeance!
