Default Potatoes?

Is there any nutritional differnece between normal potatoes and sweet potatoes? I keep seeing only sweet potatoes in articles but plain potatoes are never mentioned. Just curious.

Sweet poatoes contain more vitamins and minerals and they are lower on the glycemic index. You can even get "japanese" sweet potatoes that are more purple on the outside. They taste much closer to a normal potatoe.

If you MUST eat potatoes the best kind are new red potatoes. This is because the skin is easily eaten(and it contains much of the nutrients when it comes to tubers) and the Glycemic Index is a little lower.

Its Glycemic Index is definitly the reason.

A "normal" potato will raise your insulin more than a sweet potato.

So basically sweet potatoes are the better choice when it comes down to it?

I differ with the statement on taste. Anyway that's interesting about the japanese ones. If they taste more like the real ones with the benefits of the yucky tasting ones, I'll look for them. Does anyone know if they are readily available in Ohio?
