I was just wondering....when you guys talk about eating oats with whey in a shake, what kinda oats are you using? Is it just regular flavored instant oatmeal? Also what kind of oatmeal do you guys recommend? Im a complete noob when it comes to nutrition but i have learned a ton in my first few days here, thanks guys for the great informative posts!

Old Fashioned oats are the only way to go. I usually blend it to make it go down a little eaiser though.

Never use any flavored instant oatmeal. Just eat regular old fashion oats. An oats whey shake, is just regular oats in a container, with whey protein added.

I personally don't use oats in a shake but what I do is boil the oats, add the drained oats to some fruit and add a scoop of whey...the fruits and whey will do the flavoring instead of the sugar that's in instant flavored oats.

my version is more like a hot cereal rather than a shake...

That's a better idea than the flavored, sugar-filled packets, but the fructose in fruits is still a concern on a daily basis. At least if staying/getting cut is your focus and you aren't blessed with an insane metabolism (and in some cases, even then, it become problematic).

Try some regular oats cooked up, add a little Splenda, and some cinnamon for taste. That's a good one!

For shakes, just toss the oats in, add whey, water, PB, and blend it up. Just make sure to swish it around prior to each sip or you will find a rather unpleasant surprise of granulated oats at the bottom

Skim milk is fine if your bulking. I would shy away from it if cutting though. When I'm bulking, It's 2 scoops of whey, 1 cup of oats, a tablespoon of PB and 12 oz of skim milk and some water.

MMMMM good

I also put the oats through a coffee grinder first; I find that it helps eliminate the clumpiness a little bit (and certainly doesn't hurt).

I don't think JIF makes a brand of natty PB, but Smuckers does make an excellent natural peanut butter. If it is natural peanut butter there should be no hydrogenated oils in the ingredients list. All of the natty PBs I know of contain only peanuts and maybe salt.
