I rarely do only one set, but I feel that this can be very benificial. When you know you only have ONE set of a particular exercise you can truly focus and put everything you have into it. It is a mental thing. I compare my workouts to a series of sprints opposed to an all out marathon.

On that particular workout I did more sets than you see, but I didn't record them because I just didn't feel the muscle being worked.

Wednesday, Oct. 6th- Chest
Incline BB bench press 1 X 5 @ 205, 1 X 4 @ 210
Incline DB bench press 1 X 4 @ 85
Flat DB bench press 1 X 4 @ 85, 1 X 3 @ 85
Weighted dips 1 X 5 @ 50, 1 X 4 @ 50

A pretty solid workout today. My all time best for BB inclines is 215 for 4 reps and I'd like to get beyond that soon. My spotter today was helping me long before I actually needed it on the bar presses. Grrrr... I didn't have a spot on the DBs which really hurts my poundages. I like to have someone assist me with all their strength to get the DBs into the top position and start the set from there. When I have no spot I have to start from that super deep postion and that really affects how much weight I can use.

Thursday, Oct. 7th- Biceps, calves, and forearms
DB curls 1 X 6 @ 60, 1 X 5 @ 60
BB curls 1 X 5 @ 120, 1 X 4 @ 120
Cable curls Arg, don't remember. 1 X 5 or 6 @ 150 I think
Seated calf raises 1 X 8 @ 140, 2 X 7 @ 140, 1 X 6 @ 150
BB wrist curls 2 X 7 @ 115, 1 X 6 @ 115
BB reverse wrist curls 1 X 7 @ 50, 1 X 5 @ 50

Another solid one today. I think I held back just a bit because the gym was pretty empty. Sounds funny I know, but I like it when things are somewhat busy so I feel like I can get away with making somewhat loud noises without attracting attention. I had a pretty good pump by the end of this one in all the worked muscle groups. I would have liked more variety and volume for calves, but I was kind of crunched for time.

Oh, and if some cable movements (curls and pressdowns) look insanely heavy it is because they have way too many pulleys on that thing!

Friday, Oct. 8th- Triceps and abs
Press-downs 1 x 7 @ 200 (entire stack), 1 X 6 @ 200+5, 1 X 5 @ 200+5
Lying DB extensions 1 X 5 @ 60, 1 X 4 @ 60
One-arm press-downs 1 X 6 @ 70 (I think...gotta get a notebook)
Leg raises off bench 1 X 10 @ 15
Leg raises on ground 2 x 12 @ 10
Cable crunches (I did a few sets, but I just didn't feel like they did much, arg...)
Incline crunches 2 X 12 @ 10

Triceps work was really good today, abs were a bit hit and miss. Leg raises on the ground felt much better than off the bench. Cable crunches are somewhat rough to really get a hang of.

Saturday, Oct. 9th- Back
Deadlifts 1 X 4 @ approx. 375, 1 X 3 @ approx 380
V-bar pull-down 1 X 6 @ 205, 1 X 5 @ 220
Seated cable rows 1 X 6 @ 205, 1 X 5 @ 220

Short and sweet one today because I was crunched for time and the gym was insanely packed. One of the best back workouts I've ever had as far as poundages and feeling my back being worked. Big thumbs up for this one.

I've changed my diet up because living off the salads outside the post-workout window was just too much. I'll post the revision later on.

Sunday, Oct. 10th- Shoulders, traps, and neck
Standing BB shoulder presses 1 X 5 @ 150, 1 X 4 @ 150
Side laterals 1 X 6 @ 40, 1 X 5 @ 42.5
Bent-over rear laterals 1 X 5 @ 60 (didn't feel the best) 1 X 8 @ 55
DB Shrugs 1 X 6 @ 105, 1 X 5 @ 110
Upright rows 1 X 5 @ 85 (not inluding bar), 1 X 5 @ 80
Neck (front) w/ curl bar 1 X 9 @ 10 (not inluding bar), 1 X 8 @ 10
Neck (back) w/ plate or DB 1 X 10 @ 25, 1 X 8 @ 27.5

A pretty good workout today considering I felt totally out of it. I was really tired, guess I stayed out a little to late last night. Darn that 24 hour Starbucks. I haven't done standing presses in forever so I wasn't moving quite the poundages I would have hoped for, but I think it will climb quikly. I was looking at LW's journal and his side laterals made me feel weak. Haha, he was doing double the reps with the same weight I was, so that inspired me to go heavier and with surprising success.

Hey guys. I am probably not the only who goes through this, but dang, I actually want to look like a bodybuilder! Sure, I look pretty good by the average person's standards right now and I am often the biggest guy in the gym, but I want be lean! I want to have cuts, vascularity, a V taper without the love handles! Know what I mean? Basically I don't just want to be big, I want to be big and defined. Too much of my hard work is hiding under a layer of fat. Grrrr...

The thing is, I KNOW what I need to do to achieve the physique I want, but actually doing it is another thing. I'd like to start making this journal more depth, covering all bases. Diet, training, what I'm craving, my mindset, etc. When I look at the facts, I have been "trying" to lean out for years, but I haven't! I've been half-assing it diet and cardio wise. Sure, I've gained plenty of size, but all that fat is still there. This is just unacceptable and I really want to do something about it, so any support you guys can offer is always welcome. It isn't a physical thing, I know I CAN do my cardio, I know I CAN stick to a diet...it is the mental that I need help with.
