Thanks for your post!
Now I think I understand better what splits are and I think I am going to copy your routine if that is ok. That will be easy for me to follow. I suppose now I just need to figure out what exercises I am going to to do on which days and how many. Isn't true that you do less reps with weight to increase muscle mass and more reps with less weight to define? |

Allno - My recommendation is to lift as heavy as you can for 10-12 reps. Do 3 sets of 10-12. Two different exercises per muscle group (e.g. - 2 chest/2 shoulder/2 tricep exercises, 3 sets of 10 reps each) Lift slowly and deliberately and with good form. Don't cheat by rocking or using momentum. The last couple of reps should be a real struggle. Once you can do 12 easily, you need to move up in weight. It is basically a waste of time to pump out gobs of reps if you want any muscle tone at all. You'll get muscle endurance but not much shape. When you've "outgrown" the dbs you have, go purchase the next set. This way you can add on inexpensively. Go look at my pics. I've been lifting like this for over a year and I don't feel like I'm overly muscular. I get many compliments on my arms from other women so I don't think you'll get too big if you do it like I'm telling you. Try it and see....like I've been told....if you get too much muscle it doesn't take very long to lose it!! Good luck!
Oh - one more thing. Buy a swiss ball (the big blow up exercise ball that you sit on). You can do crunches on them, sit on them to do curls, shoulder presses, wall squats and so many exercises and it works your core!! |

I just posted my "new" regime under the training journals section. I'll be posting some pics of my big ugly butt up there this weekend. Perhaps I might one day be some inspiration to another slob like myself!
Again, Thank you! I really feel now that I am on the right track! Have a great weekend all! |
