Default So you don\'t like cottage cheese? You will now!

Hey guys there have been millions of posts about cottage cheese. I for one HATE the tast of it and many others must agree. Well with help from another member not mentioning any names *cough* Legendary *Cough* Watcher. But before I get into how to make the most delicious and most healthiest night shake in the world, i'll have to answer a few constant questions.

Many weightlifters badmouth cottage cheese, whining that it tastes bad and can't be used in any recipes (I henceforth declare them crybabies, by the way). To overlook cottage cheese is to do without a great source of lean protein and a versatile food.

Thus, I have made it my mission to convert the heathen.

High in protein, low in fat, easily available even in the crummiest dive of a convenience store, and great as a substitute for higher-fat cheeses or in its own right, cottage cheese is truly the food of the gods.

What is cottage cheese?

Cottage cheese is a soft, fresh-curd variety of cheese that has been made in Europe and America for centuries. It is an uncured cheese (one that has not been aged), and is favored by weight watchers because it is lower in fat than most cheeses.

In the process of making cottage cheese, the first stage of cheese making takes place as the milk is separated into curds (milk protein and butter fat) and whey (the liquid component of milk). The curds are then gently heated and drained. The cheese is now ready to eat, though cream and seasoning may be added to some varieties.

What role does cottage cheese play in bodybuilding?

[ QUOTE ]
CC has caesin protein, which is slow digesting. Thats key before bed because this way it is in ur body longer while u sleep, and since ur basiclly fasting for 8-10 hrs at night when u sleep, the longer the food is in you, the better.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
Cottage Cheese is a great natural source of Glutamine.

[/ QUOTE ]
Can it be eaten on a cut?

Yes it can. Depends on what type you purchase though. Cottage cheese is available in large- and small-curd varieties, with various levels of fat content that may range from 1 to 5 grams per cup.

Varieties include creamed cottage cheese, 2% and 1% cottage cheeses, and dry-curd cottage cheese. All varieties are available lightly salted, unsalted, and lactose-free. Farmerís cheese is cottage cheese that has been pressed into a block, and in contrast to cottage cheese it may sometimes be aged.

Whats the nutritional value of cottage cheese?

Cottage cheese (2%, low-fat), 1 cup (226g)
Calories: 203
Protein: 31g
Carbohydrate: 8.2g
Total Fat: 4.4g
Fiber: 0.0g

Do I still need to take cottage cheese even though I hate the taste?

Cottage Cheese is simply curds and whey (like the stuff in whey power :P). Its a great source of low fat protein, and stays with you for long digestion.

Some people can't stomach it. They don't like the taste, but there really is not anything much better for a fitness guru.

What is casein protein?

Casein protein is a primary protein found in milk, along with whey protein. Casein is the insoluble protein fraction of milk. It is absorbed more slowly than whey and provides the body with amino acids over an extended period in comparison to whey protein, the soluble protein fraction in milk.

Whats better, casein protein or cottage cheese?

Cottage cheese would probably be your best choice because casein IS basically cottage cheese just in solid form. It really depends on personal preference as some may hate the taste. (After you try my shake you'll change your mind quick smart). I'd personally take cottage cheese as its a whole food sorce rather than a powder and has alot more calcium which is an added benefit. But the best benefit is, cottage cheese is a hell of alot more cheaper than casein is.

Here are the calories for different types of cottage cheese:

Cottage Cheese (1/2 cup)

Cottage Cheese, creamed, 1 tbsp 13cal
Cottage Cheese, creamed 101cal
Cottage Cheese, 2% fat 101cal
Cottage Cheese, 1% fat 82cal
Cottage Cheese, fat-free 80cal
Cottage Cheese, Weight Watchers 90cal

From here you can see that there isn't very many calories in cottage cheese, plus most of the calories coming from them are from protein another good factor for cottage cheese.

Now if you MUST eat cottage cheese during the day as its something you love but are board with eating it from the tub here are some quick and easy recipies:

"Tapioca" Pudding: If you like tapioca pudding, try this low-carb alternative. For each 1/2 serving, mix in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring and 1 packet artificial sweetener.

Morning Preserves: Add 1 tablespoon sugar-free or reduced sugar preserves per 1/2 cup cottage cheese.

Summer Fruit: A few strawberries, blueberries, diced peaches, chopped banana or pineapple chunks sprinkle on top go a long way with cottage cheese. If carb content is a concern, try using a dash of tropical or strawberry-banana flavored sugar-free drink mix as an alternative to real fruit.[/b]

Chocolate Mousse: Add a 1/2 scoop of chocolate flavored protein drink mix (or 1 teaspoon of cocoa + 2 packets artificial sweetener), 1 tablespoon sugar-free chocolate instant pudding mix and whip in blender (you may need to add a little water or milk to thin it a little bit). Top with diced walnuts or almonds if desired and chill until set or ready to eat.

Tuna and Cottage Cheese Mix: For an ultra protein snack, mix 1 part canned tuna and 1 equal part cottage cheese. The mixture is incredibly versatile. Eat it on its own or use it in a sandwich.

I'd like to add 2 more recipe options:

lately at night I have ben doing the following:

4 egg whites (or however many you desire)
big spoonful of cottage cheese

Whip them up and drop in frying pan! So yummy, cheesy eggs!

My newest recipe:

Cottage Cheese Pizza

Mix 1/3C oats with 1 egg white and a bit of water (so its not runny). Cook like a pancake. While still in pan add pizza sauce (I make my own, see below) and then top with 1/3C cottage cheese. Broil in oven until cheese melts and browns a bit. (also can add traditional toppings ie veggies, meat...) Enjoy!

Sauce:
can of salt free tomatoes
basil, pepper, oregano
splash of balsamic vinegar
hot sauce if you like spice (I don't)
dollop of olive oil

Blend.

Hope you guys like these!!

Yeah if they would only cut back the sugar a bit...I seriously feel that the taste would be about the same without it. But then again I eat to live not live to eat, so my sense of taste between what is good and what is horrid tasting is a bit different then most...HA
