No workout tonight as an accident with our van at work has my head going a thousand different directions a minute. No one was hurt, which is what is important. Roads were just too icy to stop, or to even turn. Part of me says don't worry, it was too icy to do anything, while another says I shouldn't have gone out in the first place. Will update tomorrow hopefully.

Well, I'm back to it, hopefully. It's been a stressful week or so, with an accident and all kinds of goings on at work, including people quitting, people possibly being fired, demoted etc. Then on top of it, I injured myself at work stacking a TV in the warehouse ( darn tube tv's, when can we switch to all plasma's and LCD's????). Been doing some stretching and applying heat daily. The doc said I could go ahead with physical activity as I felt comfortable, so we shall see. I did a bit of cardio tonight and it felt alright. In the morning I am going to give the weights a go. Wish me luck!!

It's time to dust off the journal and give it some use. When I first created this journal I wasn't really dedicated to it, which I think was a reflection of my overall attitude at the time. I would workout, but it wasn't as hard or as often as it could and should have been. My diet was atrocious and in hindsight, I got the results I worked for......next to nothing. Over the past couple of months I have had some things happen to me which have helped to change my outlook and attitude towards life. I have seen this reflected in my workouts and in turn reflected in my results. I plan to update this journal daily starting first with my workouts and then adding my diet shortly after. I currently am not going to post the weights used, but that may change in the future as well.

Here is the split I am using right now:
Day 1- Chest /Tris
Day 2- Back / Bis
Day 3- Rest
Day 4- Shoulders/Traps/Forearms
Day 5- Legs

I have been contemplating adding a 6th day in and splitting quads on day 5 and hamstrings on day 6 in order to really hit my legs hard. Has anyone had some success using this type of split?

Wish me luck!!!

Something that worked good for my calfs was explosive calf raises. I would just start the lift with an explosive push from my calfs... as explosive as possible on the way up and 4 seconds on the way down. I got up to 4 plates a side with these then I started seeing some nice growth. Definitly try to work those in somewhere and tell me how you like them.

Today is an off day so I've just been relaxing reading through a few articles here on the site.
I didn't mention in my previous post but I am currently bulking. I don't have a set time when I am going to shift back to cut, but I am thinking about switching to a cut in mid july. I am currently 165 lbs at 25% bf according to my last measurements. I have today and tomorrow off and will take and post some updated measurements.

I've also set a few goals for myself. One is to break the 200 lb bench max. I am unsure how close I am as I workout at home by myself so I don't max out. In my last workout I used 120 lbs on bench for 4 sets 10. I also want to achieve a squat max of 300 lbs which again will be difficult to asess. I am working on a homemade squat rack to allow me to squat. I would like to have my weight up to 180 lbs before I begin to cut, hopefully keeping myself below 30% bf. Not sure if this in unrealistic or not, but it is something I am going to strive for.

Long term I would like to break the 200 lb mark with a bf% under 10%. I would like to push past the 400 lb bench press mark and the 500 lb squat mark.

Today is a second off day as it is Sunday and I do not workout on Sunday. I have decided to slit quads and hams into seperate workouts. I will now use a 5 day split, with Wednesday and Sunday off. I am going to experiment with calves and see which leg day they fit into better. Cardio is going to be kept minimal during this split and will consist of a lot of bike riding with my son.

This morning was chest and triceps. After warming up with a very light set for 14 reps I went through my workout as follows.

Flat Bench Press Supersetted with Flat Dumbell Flyes
4 sets 10 bench w 4 sets 12 flyes
-on the last set of flyes i forced out a couple of half reps and then let the weights down slowly until it was stretching and held that position for about 10-20 seconds.

Incline Bench supersetted with Incline flyes
Same rep scheme here. I also held the stretch on my last set, but didn't need the half sets to get the pump in.

Light Barbell Pullover
2 sets 12 getting a nice stretch.

Triceps
Over head barbell ext.
4 sets 8
on my 3 and 4 set I had to take a rest to get the last 2 reps out

Behind the back dips
2 sets failure

I stepped onto the scale yesterday and took a bf% with a 9 point test. I weighed at 169 lbs and had 25% bf.

Intresting idea, splitting up quads and hamms. Let me know how it's working out.
