Just curious to know how long you all have been lifting? And...if you've been lifting for a long time do you lift now to maintain or to gain? Do you find you have to work harder to maintain as you get older?

I've been lifting seriously since I joined ABC (a little bit after that, because it took me a while to read and learn ). So that's about 9 months for me. Before that, I would do total body workouts all in the same day, with relatively light weights, and 3 days per week at the most. Like Soccerchick, I alternate cutting and bulking cycles. For me, it's only been about 3 years. Don't let age intimidate you. I was in the WORST shape ever - I still had not lost the pregnancy weight and my son was 7 years old! Maybe it took extra time to see results (6 months maybe) but even then I thought the results came quickly. That was how I became addicted - the "quick" results.
I feel so much healthier and more energetic and I need less sleep. I look foward to each and every workout. |

I am 27 years old and have been lifting for about 8 months now. I do it to gain more muscle tone as well as improve my cardiovacular health.

I have been lifting, and working out since 2001, hence the screen name. Only recently feel like I know what I am doing though.

I've been working out for 8 years but 5 out of those 8 years was "cardio"! Ahhhhhh!!!! I've learned a lot since I've joined ABC and since then I've been lifting weights. I didn't go too heavy at first (still scared and stupid), but about 2 years ago I started to get extremely serious with my training and have since kicked some serious butt! Lifting weights helps my sanity and I honestly can't imagine my life without it! I just thank God that I have the ability to do so much and that all my body parts are functioning properly!

I have only been seriously lifting for about 2 months. I joined a gym 4 months ago and was just playing around with the weights when I started to notice awesome gains in muscle so I figured it was time to get serious about this and do it properly if I was going to do it at all. This site has helped me out so much with such valuable information (I am mainly a lurker as well) My goal is to one day compete in a bodybuilding competition.
