I was watching the Discovery Health Channel (my new favorite) when I heard something that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. So you guys have to tell me what you think.
According to this program on sexual attraction, the ideal female figure has a waist/hip ratio of seven tenths. This ratio hasn’t changed over the eons, both Marilyn Monroe and Twiggy and supermodels today have it. So what do you think, and what’s your ratio? I won't tell you mine. Well, I find it hard to believe that a single statistic can determine the "ideal" female figure. If all of the supermodels have it, then I suspect that the ratio may be a number that fashion designers use when they make clothes and so the women who look best are those that fit the designer's clothes best and it may be a statistic that the designer's look for in a model.
I think dress/pants size may be a better measurement. But then again, this is only one number and there are other factors. Maybe some sort of combination of size and proportion (ratio) may be a better assessment. And, of course, neither size nor ratio gives a muscle/fat measurement - you could be small but be "skinny-fat". I love having muscles, I strive for more, and I love the way muscles look on women. It gives them "shaping" that I think is an awesome look. Muscularity and dress size or measurement ratio are different things. It's a good question, by the way. I like questions and discussions that address the female image. |

I know exactly what you're saying. But supposedly even when they measured ancient statues the ratio was the same. It's suppose to be an idealized figure for sexual attraction, and if I'm not mistaken it holds true in all cultures. That subconsciously males are drawn to this figure type, no matter if you’re thin, fat or muscular.

I remember this debate popping up a while ago and I think that from a male perspective the "ideal" tends to vary, sometimes quite wildly. I think that most men would agree to a certain "proportion" as being the ideal (eg. height/weight/body shape). What I think is important to remember that this is the initial attraction, once you're past that then it doesn't tend to matter.
I'm a bit of a caveman in this respect - skinny is not my bag

I really have no idea how to figure my ratio. If someone knows, then, I'd love to figure out.

Does this ratio in anyway coordinate with snobiness factor?
LOL! Just because I know several physically attractive girls, who aren't spiritually attractive at all! [ QUOTE ] So what do you think, and what’s your ratio? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know about all cultures throughout all time. [ QUOTE ] what’s your ratio [/ QUOTE ] I don't think the ratio applies to me!

Way to go, Oldschool! That’s exactly why this has been bugging me for so long. We all have something that attracts us to the opposite sex (mine is so odd it has me kind of worried) But initial attraction doesn’t always make for lasting relationships.
