Default 5 meals a day?

Does anyone here eat 5 instead of 6 meals a day?

I've been considering it as a strategy for dropping calories. I could have a later breakfast and earlier dinner and make 5 meals a day work instead of 6. Would that be really bad and cause a lot of catabolism?

I eat 5 meals a day, although I can't tell you if it's catabolic or not. I eat that way because it's easier for me and the math is simple. I eat at 8:30, 11:30, 2:30, 5:30 and 8:30. I divide 1500 calories into 5 meals and it's really easy to keep track of. I'm building muscle and losing fat, so it's working for me....

Yeah I was thinking of doing 9 am, noon, 3 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm at least a few days a week, cause it is simpler than changing my meals into lower calorie ones. It would be sort of a calorie cycling thing.

I am probably going to get alot of flack for admitting my eating habits but at least you will all have something to write about.

I must eat about 10 times per day. I work at a desk, bring a cooler of stuff each day, and eat and eat all day long. For example, I work out at the crack of dawn and then have a PWO shake. About an hour later, I will have a low-fat yogurt. Then about 30-60 minutes later, I will have a hard-boiled egg white. Then 30 minutes later, another egg white. Then 60 minutes later, some cabbage. Then about 60 minutes later, one-third of a chicken breast. Then 60 minutes later, the rest of the chicken breast. Then 60 minutes later, a red pepper. Then 60 minutes later, an apple.
By now, I am starting to feel full so I can stretch out my non-eating time to almost 2 hours when I will eat another egg white and another fruit. Dinner is tuna and vegie salad, or natural peanut butter on whole wheat, or small portions of both. (I might be leaving out a fruit here or there.) I think I burn more calories eating than lifting weights .

Deb, eating in smaller intervals than 3h is not bad for you. The only thing it might do is give you indigestion. If your digestion is fine, it is totally ok.

More is better. I think the idea behind eating more meals is to keep your metabolism running (burning) at a constant rate. That way it's less likely it has an excess of cals/fat/carbs/protein to turn to fat.

I eat a sandwich as my second meal (in my breaks in my class) and half the time I'll just eat half and the next hour come back and eat the other half. So I usually eat anywhere from 6-7 meals per day.

I am just struggling with cutting calories. I think I can make it work by making meal 6 really light in calories though...

I was averaging 1,900-2,000 cals a week and losing bf. I uppped to 2,150 and gained body fat. The macros are anything from 33/33/33 to 35/30/35 to 40/30/30.

This is what I have planned for tomorrow:

Meal 1: 1/4 cup oats, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup soy milk, 1 tbsp flax, 2 egg whites, 1 whole egg, 1 tsp olive oil

Meal 2: 1 scoop whey, 2 tbsp maltodextrin

Meal 3: 1 small sweet potato, 1/2 tbsp light margarine, 3oz chicken, 4 cups lettuce, 1 small onion

Meal 4: 1/2 cup oats, 1 tbsp natural PB, 1/2 cup soy milk, 1/2 can tuna, 1 cup broccoli

Meal 5: 3 cups broccoli, 2 tsp olive oil, 5oz yellow weakfish

Meal 6: 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 tbsp natural PB, 2 whites, 1 whole egg, 1 tsp olive oil

I might still have 1/2 tbsp light mayo with the tuna, and some sugar-free jello, but so far that is:

1,819 cals
61g fat
144g carb
28g fiber
172g protein
38/32/30
